More tea please

All the tea in the world originally came from China. When drinking Chinese tea
with a meal, it’s usual to refill other people’s cups before your own. Each time
someone pours some tea for you, it’s polite to thank the person pouring it. It’s very
rude not to drink some tea each time it is served.
When requesting your teapot to be refilled in a Chinese restaurant, you should
remove the lid and place it on the edge of the teapot . The waiter will then see it
and get you some fresh tea.
There is an interesting story of this custom came cbout. A scholar brought
his favorite pet bird with him to a teahouse one winter’s day . After finishing his

pot of tea, he put the bird in the covered teapot to keep it warm. A waiter didn’t
realize that a bird was inside the pot, and refilled the pot with hot tea. Sadly, the
poor bird died. From then on, it was said, you had to move the lid when you
wanted more tea. This was a sure sign that the pot was really empty.

A postcard from Hong Kong

Dear Hong,
I’m having a wonderful time in Hong Kong. The weather is very warm and sunny.
Infact, the climate is very similar to that in Vietnam. I’m wtiting this postcard in
my hotel room. It’s a very large room with a nice bathroom.
Lan, my wife, is watching television while I’m writing to you. She’s practising her
English by watching the English-language station! Our son, Hoa, is sleeping in one
of the beds. He’s very tired! His feet are aching from all the walking we have done.
I can see the sea from my room because the window is facing Victoria harbour.
There are lots of ships and boats on the water. It’s a very busy harbour, and very
beautiful.
See you soon
Thang
