INTRODUCTION
Today, in the modern economy, young people play an important role and make a
destructive contribution to the success of each company. Therefore, researches on young peole
are necessary. We should know about their attitudes, their desires, their skills…when working
for us and from that respond timely to, especially in the attitudes. When it comes to success, it’s
easy to think that people blessed with brains are inevitably going to leave the rest of us in the
dust. But it is not completely true at all. Psychologist Carol Dweck from Stanford University has
spent her entire career studying attitude and performance, and her latest study shows that your
attitude is a better predictor of your success than your IQ. So what are young people’ attitudes to
work? How to create and maintain positive attitudes? Our essay will present an overall view of
this to you.

II.

BODY
1. Definition.
An attitude refers to our opinions, belief and feeling about aspects of our environment.
We have attitudes toward the food we eat, people we meet, courses we take and things we do. At
work, a job attitude is a set of evaluations of one's work that constitute one's feelings toward,
beliefs about, and attachment to one's work.
Work attitudes can be devided into two typical types: positive attitudes and negative
attitudes.
As we know, we all want to have positive attitudes and avoid negative ones to everything
do we. Some positive attitudes at work are confident, responsible, self-motivated… And on the
contrary, negative attitudes include arrogant, selfish, irresponsible…

2. Positive attitudes.
Having a positive attitude at work can help you get a promotion, succeed on projects,
meet goals, and just generally enjoy your job more. However, many people struggle with this,

especially those who don’t love their jobs. How can you keep a positive attitude, even if you
don’t enjoy the work you’re doing?

a.

Ambitious.

An ambitious attitude can lead anyone to triumph and satisfaction, regardless of what is
put in front of them. To have the will, the dream and the courage to be on top of the world will
get you a lot farther in life than any skills you can possibly possess.
Ambition is an useful attitude for young people. If you are ambitious, you will love your
and spend more time to work, put 100% effort on it. Therefore you can easily gain promotion,
your career will be more and more successful when you are young. According to a research,

1

scientists said that the people who are ambitious at the young age will be easier to get triumph
and richer than the people who are not.

b.

Hard – working.

Successful young people maintain good habits that go hand in hand with success in every
area of endeavor. There is nothing that will bring you to the attention of your superiors faster
than developing a reputation for being a hard-working and dependable worker. So why young
people should be hard working at work? It's a competitive world. Yes, the person sitting next to
you wants your job. Or they want to get promoted ahead of you. You are competing, whether it
is visible to you or not, and it has always been this way. The ambitious ones among you know

that getting a promotion is very competitive. Unless you are computer scientist (in which case
there are more jobs than people), you need to work hard to hold your job and advance, and you
need to be studios, you need to be better than the person next to you.
When opportunity knocks in the form of a new project, or a request from your boss, do
not say, "that's not my job" or "I'm trying to keep balance in my life" - instead, grab it with both
hands and show your boss that you are ambitious and that you understand your hard work and
smart results will be rewarded.

c.

Confident.

Confident of course, is a very important attitude, which young people should have if they
want to be good at work. People with confidence tend to smile more, but it's a learned skill. If
you walk around the office and greet others, smile first and ask about their day. The change in
attitude about what is going on around the office builds your own confidence because you
realize you need to have a better outlook - and that's highly contagious. Confidence is reflected.
It might seem obvious, but you can also build confidence by learning more. Read more books,
attend more seminars. It's easy to go overboard, and spouting your knowledge too often can be a
confidence killer when people who have greater knowledge on the subject start debating with
you, but knowing what to do about a complex issue or problem can help you gain confidence.
Confidence grows when you act on what you know.

d.

Dynamic.

First of all, you have to choose a job which brings you satisfaction and promotes you
to work with it everyday. You can always find passion and challenges in this job, which can not
make you feel bored or tired. Finding and choosing your favourite job are necessary because it

will create curiousity, give you challenges and help you to get more knowledge.
Secondly, do not be shy when you receive some compliments. Earning and
remembering those are the intensive motivations to boost you up, because one of the hugest
desires of mankind is that people around you recognize your attempts.

2

Thirdly, you have to define your personal goal, especially for the one who has a belief
in his career path, in the products he sells, in the cooperation with his boss, his partner, so that
this goal is the massive inspiration for you
Constant communication with successful person is also a great choice if you want to
be more motivated and have fulfilled energy.

e.

Responsible.
Complete assigned work: It is very important to complete work as accurately and as
quickly as possible. Missing deadlines can throw a project of schedule and make it harder for the
next employee to get the project completed.
Have a positive attitude: No one likes a negative or sighing. Support fellow team
members and help to raise spirits instead of bringing them down.
Tell the truth (with tact): No one likes liars. At least not after the truth has come out. It is
best to be honest, no matter how hard it may seem at the time.
Follow the rules: If you are not supposed to be on the internet, don't use it. If your lunch
break is 45 minutes, come back from lunch on time. Remember, rule breakers will be here today
and gone tomorrow.

f.

Self motivated

Keep learning: Read and try to take in everything you can. The more you learn, the more
confident you become in starting projects.
Stay Positive: See the good in bad. When encountering obstacles, you want to be in the
habit of finding what works to get over them.
Stop thinking: Just do. If you find motivation for a particular project lacking, try getting
started on something else. Something trivial even, then you’ll develop the momentum to begin
the more important stuff.
Know yourself: Keep notes on when your motivation sucks and when you feel like a
superstar. There will be a pattern that, once you are aware of, you can work around and develop.
Track your progress: Keep a tally or a progress bar for ongoing projects. When you see
something growing you will always want to nurture it.
In conclusion, if you want to be good at your job, so your attitude will decide much of it.
There are so many advantages of positive attitude such as:

-

Increase productivity
Reduce stress
Increase profits
Improve quality
Foster team work
Solve problems

-

Make a congenial atmosphere
3. Negative attitudes.
Beside the positive attitude to work, some young people also have negative attitudes. At
work, we may encounter people who do their types fret: people who work dilatory, those
sycophantic... and especially those with a negative attitude. The negative attitudes hate
everything, from work carried out too slow, lengthy meetings.

a.

Arrogant.

Arrogant people think that they are better than others so they put themself to the center of
everything and don’t care to anything else. They have difficulty in teamwork because they can’t
have a good relationship with their partners. Therefore, their work’s result isn’t good too.

b.

Lazy.

Lazy people are always unmindful of work. They just start working when their deadline
is coming and they don’t have good preparation for their work so their work’s result isn’t good.

c.

Inferior.

This is the expression of people who don’t have belief in themselves and have difficulty
in building relationships with others. They may have ability but tend to be afraid of expressing
their opinions. Because of inferiority, they don’t use up all their abilities so their work’s result
doesn’t reach the target.

d.

Selfish.

Selfish people are only interested in their own benefits without regarding to others’ and
don’t like anyone who are better and prettier than them.
They often compete with others so that they aren’t disvantaged in any cases. Their motto
is taking advantages to them and pushing others into difficult, dangerous situations. When
enjoying, they first appear. When feeling disadvantaged, they will never appear. This is a
personal negative way of life that is not care about the benefit of others and community.

e.

Irresponsible.

In our life, we must face many problems, which require each of us to have good spirit and
responsibility, train ourselves to become active and clever in order to make right decisions, take
chances to overcome difficulties and complete our tasks.
In fact, there are many people that lack responsibility at work. Expressions of them are
not fully awareness of their duties, working superficially, just thinking about their personal
benefits… Some people work carelessly and irresponsibly. When having trouble, they don’t
want to take responsibility for mistakes and often blame others. They don’t want to change the
way to work, refuse to listen to the opinions and contributions of others, put their interests on
top, which lead to delays and working inefficiently.

f.

Conservative

Some people have conservative views when working. They are always obtaining their
opinion whether it is right or not. They also reject other people’s one. They never listen and pay
attention to colleague’s ideas. This is not really good at all. It is hard to change such people and
that effects effectiveness of their team and company.
If we have negative attitudes to work, we can’t succeed in career and life as well. The
arrogant attitude, which is always thinking you’re right and having no respect for others, will
make your relationships with your colleagues become difficult worsen. If you have a inferior
attitude, you don’t have the courage to get new tasks and chances to get a promotion. The
consevative persons who insist that their opinion is right and want everybody to follow them
can’t find their own limitations and have troubles in innovating their working methods…
Therefore, we need to be aware of positive attitudes to work, respect for others, often
encourage and help our colleagues at work and in life as well.

4. How to create and maintain positive attitudes:
There are, a few simple strategies to keep in mind that will help you demonstrate a
positive attitude, while still being yourself in the workplace:
Smile: It’s amazing how powerful a smile can be. It actually changes your brain
chemistry. Even if you don’t feel like it, try to smile regularly throughout the day. Others will
respond to you more favorably and you’ll naturally feel more positive.
Seek Solutions: Negative people see obstacles. Positive people look for solutions. Instead
of pointing out a challenge and waving the white flag of surrender, approach it like a puzzle.
How can we turn the situation around? How can we fix the problem? How can we make this
work? It’s fine to be skeptical, but bring your own ideas to the table as well.
Remain Professional: Negativity comes from a place of emotion: Frustration, anger,
disappointment, etc. Do your best to set these feelings aside. The workplace is a professional
environment, it’s your responsibility to act professionally. That means using tact and diplomacy,
stating facts before feelings, and finding ways to get the job done, even when it’s

uncomfortable.
Respect the Team: Negativity sucks the energy from those around you. Give your team
members the respect they deserve. Even if you aren’t feeling particularly positive, focus on the

5

bigger picture. You’re a part of the team and your attitude matters. A little effort goes a long
way.
Negativity is like a boomerang: It always comes back to you. Likewise, the more you
project a positive attitude, the more positivity will come your way. You don’t have to pretend to
be someone else. Just recognize the powerful force that is your attitude, and use it to your
advantage.

III. CONCLUSION
So we all know that it can be difficult to maintain a positive attitude in the workplace. In
fact, sometimes it can seem like Mission Impossible. Instead of falling victim to the negative
work attitudes that surround you, make an effort to buck the trend. Look for the good in your
coworkers and your workplace. By learning how to communicate with coworkers effectively,
you will gain recognition as a force of positive attitude in the workplace. By keeping a good
attitude at the work place you can make your life much more relaxed. Start loving what you do
and the people you work with as much as you can, and accepting what you have at the moment.
