Traditional seaside holiday

Traditional seaside holiday is a typical british summer holiday.

Entertainment for all
Entertainment was diverse! It ranged from the puppet show Punch
and Judy to donkey rides along the beach. There were even
'bathing machines' for the ladies. These wooden shelters on wheels
were pulled into the sea by horses or donkeys, and once inside, the

women could change into their bathing suits hidden from view,
thus retaining their modesty.

The traditional seaside can be found in
many other resorts up and down the
country. On the Dorset Coast Weymouth
still retains much of this atmosphere. It is
busier than Southwold, but it is still a
family resort. There is a clock on the front
that celebrates the Queen's Jubilee
(Queen Victoria's that is!). The beach has
golden sands and is perfect for bathing

Traditional things to eat at the seaside are candy floss and a
stick of rock sweet

Many British people spend much of their free time during the summer months down by the
sea. Children enjoy swimming in the sea and building sandcastles

Christmas day

Christmas day, december 25, is probably the most

popular holiday in Britain. It is a family holiday.
Traditionally all relatives and friends get together and
give each other presents

On this day many people go to
churches, open their christmas
presents, decorate christmas trees

This day is a traditional family day, all the family gather at table to eat traditional
dinner of roast turkey and christmas pudding

Traditional family christmas dinner

Children leave a long stocking at the end of
their beds on christmas eve, 24th december,
hoping that father christmas will come down
the chimney during the night and bring them
small presents, fruit and nuts. At some time on
christmas day the family will sit down a big
turkey dinner followed by christmas pudding.
They will probably pull a cracker. It will make a
loud crack and a coloured hat or a small toy
will fall out

Later in the afternoon
they may watch the
queen’s speech on the

television and enjoy a
piece of christmas cake
or eat a hot mince pie
26th december is also a
public holiday, Boxing
day, and this is the time
to visit friends and
relatives

New year’s day

New Year's Day is a public holiday in the United Kingdom
on January 1 each year. It marks the start of the New
Year in the Gregorian calendar. For many people have a
quiet day on January 1, which marks the end of the
Christmas break before they return to work.

At midnight, as the New Year begins, the chimes of Big Ben are broadcast to mark
the start of the New Year.

What do people do in new year’s day?
On New Year's Eve (December 31), just before
midnight, many people turn on a television to show
pictures of one of the four clocks on the Clock Tower on
the Palace of Westminster, or Houses of Parliament, in
London counting down the last minutes of the old year.
At midnight, as the New Year begins, the chimes of Big
Ben, the bell inside the Clock Tower, are broadcast to
mark the start of the New Year. Champagne or other
sparkling wines are often served at this point.

Many people hold parties at home or go out to pubs or night clubs.
These parties often continue into the early hours of the morning.
Hence, for many people, New Year's Day is time for recovering
from the excesses of the night before.

For others, it is the last day of the Christmas holiday before they return
to work. Some take the opportunity to carry out home improvements or
to go for a walk in the country. In many places around the United
Kingdom's coast, groups of people dress up in fancy costumes and run
into the cold sea.

The 14th of february is called
valentine. It is a day of lovers. That is
when every woman and every man
thinks about his or her sweetheart

St.valentine’s is the saint of
people in love. On that day
people send valentine cards and
presents to their beloved.
Traditionally you must never
write your name on it

Every year thousands of people travel to a small village on
Scotland’s border with England to get married. The village
is called Gretna Green.
