SUMMARY
STUDY ON PARA-NITROPHENOL DECOMPOSITION USING TiO, COATED GAC
The ultimate goal of this research is to combine the adsorptive properties of activated carbon
with the oxidative properties of titanium dioxide, aphotocatalyst, i n order to prepare a regenerated
photocatalytic-adsorptive material. The promise is that the, activated carbon, coated with TiO,,
would capture the organic components owing to the conventional adsorption. When the adsorptive
capacity of carbon becomes exhausted, it can be in situ regenerated by using the W lamps for
activating the photocatalyst. This paper presents the comparative results of the adsorptive
oxidative capacities of two types of commercially available activated carbon with loadings of 5 and
10% of TiO, (wlw).
