Citizens of the World
Many people live in their hometowns for their
whole lives. But others, sometimes have to
leave their motherland because of personal,
political, religious, socio-economic or racial
reasons, like the Jews in Germany in the
1930s or the Spanish and Italian immigrants
who arrived in Argentina during the same
decade and afterwards. Also, sometimes,
conquests and wars bring different peoples
under the rule of a common dominant group.
Since the last century, many ethnic groups
have settled in places like London, New York
or Buenos Aires. In these cities we can now
find a wide variety of natives from all over
the world. Mixed societies are culturally rich
because they display different lifestyles. All
of them must be respected.
Unfortunately, racism is very strong in some
places, especially against people from the
neighbouring countries. Discriminating
against other people makes no sense; we are
all citizens of the world, we are all equals.
