Objective: to decide whether a noun is countable/uncountable
Prep: Make 2 copies for each pair. Cut apart one set (page) of cards for each pair.
Instructions:
In pairs/small groups, students decide whether each noun is more commonly used as a countable
or uncountable noun then place it under the correct heading. Once students have finished, give
them a copy of the answer key to compare their answers with and make corrects. Discuss common
errors as a class.
Expansion:
1. Have student make sentences using the most common errors.
2. Have students look through magazines and add to list. (by categories – ex. sports, food)
3. For higher level students add another heading (Both) for those nouns that can be used as
countable and uncountable.
