A DETECTIVE STORY
1. You are one of the famous detectives (choose your character).

Miss Marple

A client hired you to find the murderer of his wife. Use the following cues to write your
detective story.
Mr and Mrs Brown – rich people, own a big house
Mrs Brown was found dead on the bathroom floor
She had a fistful of orange hair in her hand (was it human?)
The murderer stole her diamond necklace she always wore
Their cook, chauffeur, gardener and son Tommy were at home at the time of the murder
The pizza delivery boy was seen in the back yard
1. A client, Mr. Brown, comes into your detective office and asks you for your services. Write in a
form of a dialogue your conversation with him.


2. You come to the house. Describe it. What rooms are there?

Who was where at the time of the murder?
Write in a form of a dialogue your conversation with the following people: cook, Tommy,
gardener, chauffeur and pizza delivery boy.

3. You have all the information and evidence you need. You call all the people to gather in a room, You tell
them who is not the murderer and why. At the end you reveal the identity of the murderer and you
explain how the murder happened.

A client comes into your office. His pet disappeared. His pet is a cat, Garfield. Oddie, the dog, is the main
suspect. Write in a form of a dialogue your conversation with your client.

You spent a lot of time looking for Garfield. Where did you go? Who did you interview? What did
you find out?

You call your client to tell him/her that you found Garfield. Write your phone conversation.


Your client comes into your office to take Garfield home, but the cage in which you put Garfield is
empty. Your client gets angry at you.

You start looking for Garfield around your office….and finally you find him…Where was he? What
was he doing there? How did your client react when s/he saw Garfield?
