You can use this activity as a fun way to test your students’ knowledge of, say, words from the previous
lesson. Alternatively, you could have them decide on the correctness of sentences you read out. I find
that this imaginary scenario effectively raises the stakes for students and is able to break the boredom of
testing.
Your goal is to keep up the game long enough to test everything you want. Hopefully, the questions will
not be too easy or too difficult either, since that would cut the game short. If the questions are too easy
in the beginning, it’s hard to make the game longer. That’s why I usually start with the more difficult
questions. In case they are too difficult in the beginning, I just give students some helpful clues, so this
way I can influence their standing. Starting with difficult questions also means that the questions will get
simpler and simpler toward the end, giving students a better chance of “surviving.” Hope you’ll like the
game!

Gosh, the Vikings are back to loot our churches and take our women. You had better
get back to the cathedral before the Vikings get hold of you. Your teacher will ask you
questions. One bad answer will get you one step closer to the Vikings. One good
answer and you move one step closer to the safety of the cathedral. Good luck!
