Travel means ‘travelling in general’
It is normally uncountable.


I love cinema and travel

The word ‘travel’ is used to talk about
going from one place to another, and
can be used as a noun or verb.



A journey is one piece of travelling.
Going from one destination to
another, it can refer to a long
distance or a short regular one.



Did you have a good journey?
The journey was very tiring,
it took 5 hours to get there.

Verb: Susie travels a lot.
Noun: Travel nowadays is
much cheaper.

The plural travels is sometimes used


it means a grand exploration or
travelling

Trip

Voyage
A voyage is used to describe a long
journey usually by sea or in space.




A trip is a return journey together
with an activity/activities. Business or
pleasure is the reason for the
journey.

We do not use trip for expeditions
which have a serious purpose, and are

hard or take a very long time to
complete.

Before the 20th century long
sea voyages were very
common.
A spaceship will take you on a
voyage through space.

A tour is a journey where several places are visited and usually takes place on holiday. Tour can be used as a noun or a
verb.
 Noun: We went on a tour of Spain
 Verb: We toured the Central regions of the United States.
