Most English nouns form their plural
by adding –s to the singular
E.g. boy – boys, book – books, pen –
pens

Fill in the plural:
a brush – two

Nouns ending in –s, -ch, -sh, -sh, -x, -z, -o form their plural by adding –es
E.g. bus – buses, glass – glasses, quiz- quizzes, box – boxes, match – matches, brush brushes
The following nouns add only –s:
-foreign and abbreviated nouns ending
in –o: photos, concertos, pianos, solos,
videos, sopranos, kimonos, tangos,
tobaccos, kilos, pros (professionals)
-nouns ending in –o preceded by a
vowel: cuckoos, kangaroos, radios,
scenarios, studios, zoos
-proper nouns: Filipinos, Eskimos, Neros,

Put the nouns in the plural and read
them out:

Nouns with two plural forms: banjos – banjoes, buffalos – buffaloes, cargos – cargoes,
mementos – mementoes, mottos – mottoes, volcanos – volcanoes, zeros – zeroes etc.

Nouns ending in -y preceded by a consonant
change –y into –i before –es: factory –
factories, lady – ladies, city – cities

But boy – boys, play – plays, day - days

Proper nouns take –s in the plural without
any orthographic change:
E.g. Marys, Henrys, the Crosbys, the Kennedys

Put into the plural:
