Teacher’s directions
(Follow the procedures for each character.)
Divide the class into pairs.
Each pair receives a worksheet.
They are allowed to take notes in their notebooks during the pair discussion.
Each pair discusses the answers for the first character / smiley.
Tell them to look the character carefully and try to understand how the
character is feeling.
They have to use their imagination to create stories to justify why they feel
that way.
After the allotted time (that may range between 5 / 10 minutes, depending
on the students’ level and oral development), choose a pair and they have to
explain their conclusions.
Ask the class a pair that disagrees.
The second pair will explain what they think and why.
Ask the students to raise their hands if they agree and count the number of
students; ask them to raise their hands if they disagree and count the
students.
The pair with more students supporting the students’ opinion gets a point.
Start the same activities with the character #2, until time’s up or they have
analyzed all the characters.
Remind students that there isn’t a right / wrong answer / opinion, but they
have to find the best way to justify their opinion in a reasonable way to
defend what they think in front of the class.
Only two pairs will explain their opinions (for and against), but all the pairs
must be prepared.
Choose the pairs randomly, but make sure all the students participate
equally.
