Kate
Put the verbs in the past simple to tell Jake’s story.
Jake really _ _ _ _ _ _ (fancy) Kate. He _ _ _ _ _ _ (think) she was really
gorgeous. On February 14th, he _ _ _ _ _ _ (send) her a Valentine’s card. The next
day at school, she _ _ _ _ _ _ (give) him a great big smile. ‘Yes!’ he _ _ _ _ _ _
(say) to himself, ‘she fancies me!’ But he _ _ _ _ _ _ (not ask) her for a date
because he was too shy. And insecure! Poor Jake _ _ _ _ _ _ (not feel) confident
enough to ask her. One day, he _ _ _ _ _ _ (see) her in the park. She was with her
friends Mike and Jamie. He _ _ _ _ _ _ (not like) her friends, they were real
nerds. But Kate _ _ _ _ _ _ (see) him and she _ _ _ _ _ _ (wave) to him. Then she
_ _ _ _ _ _ (shout) to him. ‘Hoy, Jake, come on over!’ she _ _ _ _ _ _ (say). Jake _
_ _ _ _ _ (look) around. Was she talking to him? But she had said his name, so she
must be. He _ _ _ _ _ _ (turn) towards her and _ _ _ _ _ (start) walking over to
her. She was sitting on a bench with the two idiots. She _ _ _ _ _ _ (pat) the
bench with her hand. ‘Come and sit down and have a chat’ she _ _ _ _ _ _ (offer).
Jake _ _ _ _ _ _ (not believe) his luck! He _ _ _ _ _ _ (stroke) his hair and went to
sit down. Disaster! He _ _ _ _ _ _ (miss) the bench and _ _ _ _ _ _ (fall) on the
floor! Kate’s friends _ _ _ _ _ _ (laugh) so much that they _ _ _ _ _ (cry). Jake
had never felt so embarrassed in his all life. He _ _ _ _ _ (wish) the ground would
swallow him up.
