Retelling a story
Using a short entitled “The Lion and the Mouse”, I summed it up
into four small paragraphs, and then I divided my students into 4
groups. I gave each group one part.
Students must read their parts for a few minutes. Without showing
the others. They returned back the slips of papers.
At this stage students use their memory and own language and
collaborate with the aim of fitting together the story.
 They then retell it orally.

 Paragraph 1: One Summer holiday, a tiny mouse made-up his
mind to go for walk. I was a sunny day perfumed with the odour of
flowers and tress everywhere. He was singing and playing.
Unfortunately, a strong and brave lion caught him.

 Paragraph 2: The mouse got so scared that he left his heart
would stop beating. “Please King don’t hurt me. I may help you one
day!” wondered the mouse.
The lion replied with a majestic voice: “I’m the king of the beats.
How come that one day I shall need your aid, poor mouse?”
“Please king, I’m so tiny, a lord like you eat only deer’s meat.”
 Paragraph 3: The king so freed the little mouse one day, the
lion left his den and went fetching something to eat.
As was walking, he was entrapped in a huge net that set by hunters.
The lion tired to cut the net with his clause but in vain.
 Paragraph 4: Few minutes later, the mouse came, as he heard
the lion’s shouts. On the net trying to cut it into pieces with his sharp
teeth .
The lion finally found himself set free. The lion said: “ I’m so sorry
because I have despised you. I have learnt never to consider any body
useless just because his is small”.


N.B: Pictures are so useful to refresh your students’ memories while
retelling the story.

Ask students question related to their personalities in order to
contribute information about themselves.
