SIDE BY SIDE
This table puts the present simple and the past simple side by side so that students can compare them
easily. The colour code helps them to associate the similarities.
REMEMBER: We us simple verbs to talk about facts, truths and habits.
We use them with verbs of state too.
We form regular simple verbs by using the bare infinitive.
We often use adverbs of frequency with ‘simple’ verbs:
Always, often, usually, sometimes, rarely, seldom, never.
We use the past simple when we can collocate a fact in the past.
We use the past simple with adverbs of past time:
