When I was a little girl one of my favourite times of the year was early

November because we knew we were getting ready to celebrate Guy
Fawkes. Guy Fawkes itself is on the 5th of November but a few days
before my brother and I we used to make a guy. A guy was a man
that we made out of old clothes and we stuffed the clothes with old
newspaper to make like a big modal of a man and we would make a
card that we used to sit in the front of the man and on the card it said
a penny for the guy. Then the man, our modal of the man, our guy
Fawkes, we used to put it in my dads wheelbarrow and sit the card
on top of the man and we used to go down to the local shops we’d
stand outside the shops and when people went past we would say
’penny for the guy, penny for the guy’ and people would give us one

or two coins, not big money just a little bit and with it we would buy
sweets
