It's Saturday night, and Тага is going to a party with some friends. Tara's mother and father are watching
TV when she says goodbye to them. 'I'm going to Sam's party. I won't be late” she says. 'You can't go out dressed
like that!' yells Tara's dad. 'You look ridiculous.' Тага looks down at her carefully chosen outfit. She's wearing a
tight red top, a silver miniskirt and black boots with 15-centimetre heels. She has coloured her hair bright red and
she's wearing tinted glasses. Тага thinks she looks great!
Fashion has always been a contentious issue. Young people express themselves through fashion, and
extreme fashion is a way to rebel. In the 1960s young people started wearing miniskirts, bell-bottomed pants and
flower patterns. Many young people became hippies, and parents despaired when their teenage sons grew their hair
long. Long hair and bell-bottomed pants lasted into the 70s, but this was also the decade of glamorous fashion. Gold
and silver pants and tiny tight tops became all the rage. Disco-goers wore high-heeled shoes and boots that were
almost impossible to walk in. Who knows how they danced in them! Punk rock also raised its ugly head during the
70s. Punks had crazy Mohawk haircuts and wore dirty clothes with holes in them. They attached pins to their clothes
and even inserted them through their cheeks and К eyebrows. Punks really knew how to rebel. Extreme fashion
took a rest during the 80s. Then during the 90s, styles from the 60s and 70s came back. Bell-bottomed pants and
crazy high-heeled shoes returned. Midriffs were bare and body piercing came into fashion. Now that we've entered
the 21st century (or the 'naughties'), you can wear whatever you like!
In-Mode Magazine: Interview with an extreme fashion victim
Marc likes to look different. At the moment his hair is blond and he has four earrings in his right ear. He is wearing
black leather pants, knee-length boots and an orange shirt.
Interviewer: How much money do you spend on clothes?
Marc: Well, not as much as you'd think because I often buy old clothes. I probably spend about £130 a month.
Interviewer: What do your parents think about the way you dress?
Marc: My parents are pretty cool - they don't mind at all.

Interviewer: What do you wear to work?
Marc: I work as a software designer for a small company. Everyone is pretty relaxed and I can wear whatever I like.
Interviewer: What fashion advice would you give me?
Marc: Just wear what you feel comfortable in!
