When you describe a picture you need to use:
Expressions and prepositions of place (on the right, on the left, in the middle,
next to, on, in front of, in the foreground, in the background, etc…)
You can see ………. (people, animals,….)
There is a …….. /there are some …….. (say what they are doing,…and what they
are wearing)
You can say the name of the picture and the painter.
Finally, you can comment about the size and colours of the picture.

George Seurat painted this picture “Sunday afternoon on the Island of Grand Jatte” in
1884. In the foreground we can see men and women sitting on the grass near the
river. There is a black dog There is a tall woman with a little girl in the middle of the
picture. The woman is carrying an umbrella to protect her from the sun. There is a
man wearing a black hat and a woman is wearing a big hat. On the right there is
woman wearing a long skirt and two girls sitting on the grass.
In the background we can see the river and some trees. There are a lot of people
walking, sitting or looking at the water. There are some boats in the river.
The picture has many colours . I think the people in the picture are having a good
time.
It’s a beautiful picture.
