Famous places in the USA
One should start sightseeing in America from Washington. There are many beautiful parks
and gardens here. It is interesting to see the famous cherry trees, the gift
from Japan. They were brought to America in 1912. The NASA museum is
devoted to the USA achievements in the exploration of space. Capitol Hill is
the highest place in the city. There is a law that forbids to build houses
higher than the Capitol Hill. From the Capitol to the White House
Pennsylvania Avenue used for all processions and parades runs. The Lincoln
Memorial and Washington Monument are the most famous ones in
Washington. The Washington Monument is one of the most impressive sights in the city.
It is situated in Potonic Park. It was erected to the memory of the first president of the
USA in 1888. It is called ‘the Pencil’ because it is one of the tallest stone
constructions in the world and the tallest in the USA. Another place of
interest, though very solemn, is Arlington National Cemetery, which is on
the other side of the Potomic River, opposite the capital. It is a resting place
of many soldiers and leaders of the US military and other professions. The
Vietnam Memorial Wall, located on the Mall, has become a major attraction
for the visitors of Washington. Washington’s most popular tourist
attractions are Washington Museum of Arts, The Natural History Museum,
and the Holocaust Museum which recollects the terrible World War II events.
There are many sights in Philadelphia, for example, the National Historical Park. You can
also see the Liberty Bell, which is a symbol of freedom. The sound of this Bell told the
people about the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence in July 1776. you
can also visit the Philadelphia Museum of Art – one of the greatest art museums of the
world.
One should also visit New York, the city of skyscrapers with the Statue of Liberty. A new
American Immigration Museum has been opened at the base of the statue. The
Metropolitan Opera House, the Madison Square Garden, where many sports events take
place, Wall Street, its financial heart, the Modern Arts Museum are popular among the
tourists.
One can also visit Los Angeles, because millions of tourists are attracted


by the film studios and the legendary Beverly Hills, the area where the
rich villas of film-stars and producers are located. Have a look round
Universal Studios, where some of Hollywood’s greatest films were made.
You can take a guided tour which will take you through the film sets and
behind the scenes to the dressing rooms, and will bring you face to face
with King Kong and the sharks from Jaws. Drive down Sunset Boulevard, probably the
most famous street in Los Angeles. Here you can see every side of the city’s character –
cheap nightclubs side by side with smart boutiques and expensive restaurants. If you’re
tired of Disneyland, go and see the nearby Movieland Wax Museum, and
admire the wax figures of famous stars – all in scenes from their bestknown films. Return to the world of your childhood by spending a day
at Disneyland, a place for children of all ages. At Disneyland you can
go on a boat journey through a tropical jungle: you can take a train
through the American Wild West; travel in a spaceship to the stars.


San Francisco is famous for its historc cable car, Chinatown - the country’s largest - with
its Oriental architecture, and Japantown. Also interests are: Fisherman’s Wharf; Golden
Gate Park, with its planetarium, museum of natural history, aquarium and flower gardens;
Presidio, and Cow Palace.
Buffalo is an important transportation center, but of interest in the area are nearby Niagara
Falls, the Buffalo Museum of Science, Historical Museum, and Zoological Gardens, and
the Allbright-Knox Art Gallery.
Arizona is the land of contrast ans surprise. The most startling area of the
state is the Grand Canyon, which is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of
the world. The Canyon is over 349 km long and more than 1,5 km deep,
and 20 km wide in places. It has many beautiful colours that change
during the day.
