PHRASES AND CLAUSES OF PURPOSE
Phrases of purpose: (cụm từ chỉ mục đích)
1. S + V + to/ so as to / in order to + V
Ex: Sarah went to the supermarket to buy something.
2. S + V + so as not to / in order not to + V
ex: He turned off the light before going out so as not to waste the electricity.
3. S + V + IN ORDER [for + O] to V
Clauses of Purpose: (Mệnh đề chỉ mục đích)
for fear that / lest
S + V + in order that / so that + S + will/ would/ can/ could… + V
*Lest = for fear that: vì sợ rằng
Ex: Tom is saving up so that he can buy a new car.
He ran away lest he might be seen.
