 a/ an được dùng trước danh từ số ít khi người ta lần đầu nói tới danh từ đó:
Ex: This is a book.

Chú ý: a dùng trước danh từ bắt đầu bằng một phụ âm.
an dùng trước danh từ bắt đầu bằng một nguyên âm (a,e,o,I,u)
 the được dùng với cả danh từ số ít và số nhiều khi ta đã nhắc tới danh từ đó hoặc khi danh từ đó đã
được xác đònh hoặc thể hiện một người hay vật duy nhất.
