JENNY EVANS, THE ANIMAL WOMAN
Jenny Evans has worked with animals all her life. She started collecting srnall animals as
pets while she was still at primary school. When she was 15, her local youth club invited her to
bring a selection of thern along to a meeting and tell mernbers about them, in return lbr a small
fee. After the success of the firsttalk, Jenny found herself in demand frorn othcr organizations.
The money that she earned went towards food and other supplies for her animals.

By the end ol'the six month sulnrner season, Jenny was an experienced performer and had
developed a wide range of acts tirat involved magic, jokes, singing and dancing. Jenny included
these in her anitnal talks which she continued to give whenever she was free.

was while Jenny was presenting one of these talks that she was approached by a
prodltcer to be a guest on a children's television programme. On the strength of this one

Jenny main airn had always been to inform and educate her audience. After two years of
presenting "Paws", Jenny made the decision to give up her screen career in order to concentrate
on colnllunicating her knowledge and love of animals to children in a different way. She started
offering lectures to schools, based on the national science curriculum. Using her own animals,
she shows her audience a wide range of creatures, frorn insects and water creatures like frogs, to
birds and mammals such as mice. By watching and handling the animals, the children and their
teachers are able to understand how they have developed and how they behave. These lectures
have becolre so popular that Jenny now employs David, a former zookeeper and expert in
animal care, as a second lecturer. Between them they lecture in schools across the whole of
souttrrern England.

Meanwhile, as well as a large aviar! where the birds can fly around, Jenny's mini-zoo at
her home contains all the animals she uses in her talks, including several rare types of animals.
At the rnoment, her favorites are solne young meerkats frorn Southem Africa, which she is
feeding and bringing up by hand. No doubt they will appear in one of her talks very soon.
