One of the most important people in making personal computers is Bill Gates. Bill Gates
was born in 1955 in Washington State. He grew up in a rich family. His parents sent him to a
private school. There he met his business partner, Paul Allen. When they were in the eighth grade,
they were writing programs for business computers and making money.
In 1993, Gates was accepted into Harvard University. Two years later, Gates dropped out of
Harvard to work on a computer program with his friend Allen. They were writing the program that
would run one of the first personal computers. In 1975, they created a company called Microsoft to
sell their product.
By 1990, at the age of thirty-four, Gates was the youngest billionaire in the history of the
United States. He was the “King of Software”. He had a dream and the will to succeed. By 1997, he
was the richest man in the United States.
