Possessives – Shopping List Activity
Instructions –
Students will work in pairs so you only need to print one worksheet for every two
students. Each pair gets a bag with a complete set of pics.
Premise – A and B are volunteers in their community and offer to help make
supermarket runs for their busy neighbors. They’ve just been to the store with their
neighbors’ shopping lists and have bought everything. Now they must divide all the
items so that they can give them to the correct neighbor.
A: (takes out a picture from the bag, a newspaper for example) Whose newspaper is
this?
B: (looks at the worksheet) Mr. Lee asked us to buy a newspaper. It’s his. (A places the
pic in Mr. Lee’s space)
A: (takes out another pic, some chocolates…) Whose chocolates are these?
B: Mr. and Mrs. Lam asked us to buy some chocolates. They’re theirs. (A places the pic
in Mr. and Mrs. Lam’s space)
You can have the pairs continue in this way or have them switch off, with A taking out a
pic and then B taking out a pic and so on.
