The English Flag is called Saint George.


England is the largest and the richest country of the United Kingdom.
The land is mostly flat or undulating and there are upland areas in
the north and in Devon and Cornwall in the south-west.


Although England is highly industrialised and densely populated, there
are still many unspoilt areas of great natural beauty. There are many
national parks, historic buildings and gardens.


One of the most well-known beauty spots is STONEHENGE,
situated on Salisbury Plain.


Not far from Stonehenge stands SALISBURY CATHEDRAL, a splendid
Gothic Cathedral built in the 12th century. Inside the Cathedral is one of
the four copies of The Magna Carta.


THE LAKE DISTRICT in the north-west is another area of outstanding beauty.
It is a region of lakes and mountains.


HADRIAN’S WALL was built by the Romans to defend them from
attacks by the fierce Scottish tribes. Some remains of the wall can still
be seen.
