William
Shakespeare
HAMLET

• Type of book: drama-tragedy
• Setting: old castle Helsingoer
• Idea: No bad thing should not
remain unpunished.
• This book is about the death
of king of Denmark, and
his son wants and revenge
his son for him.

Main characters:
Hamlet- prince and son of dead king
Claudius- brother of dead king, new king of
Denmark and husband of Gertruda, he
killed his brother king Hamlet
Gertruda- mother of prince Hamlet, wife of
king Hamlet, but after his death she
married his brother Claudius
Horatio- the best friend of prince Hamlet
Ophelia- girlfriend of prince Hamlet

Short content:
Hamlet receives a message telling him
about his father‘s sudden death and his
mother‘s wedding with Claudius, who is

his father‘ brother, Hamlet‘s uncle. Hamlet
returns to Denmark. Horatio visits Hamlet
in his private room and tells him about the
appearance of his father‘s ghost. Hamlet
decides to visit the guards on the platform
at midnight. Hamlet and Horatio climb the
tower. The ghost appears. It tells Hamlet
to be his father‘s ghost and narrates him
having been murdered by his own brother,
Claudius. The ghost asks for revenge.

After having met the ghost,
Hamlet is very excited. He
pretends to be insane to cover
his knowledge about the
murder. Hamlet and Ophelia are
in love, but she tells her father
Polonius about Hamlet‘s
madness. Polonius prohibits her
to met anymore with Hamlet.

A group of actors has arrived at
The Castle. Hamlet decides to make the
actors perform a mime play
representing his father‘s murder.
Hamlet organizes a play in the Royal
Hall. The actors arrived and, on
Hamlet‘s suggestion, perform a

pantomime called ‘‘ Gonzago‘s
Murder‘‘. In the moment the King
discovers how the play is similar to his
own deed, he interrupts the
performance. For Hamlet this is proof
that his uncle is guilty.

Hamlet visits his mother, hearing
a noise behind the curtains, kills
Polonius believing it is King
Claudius. Then Laertes, Polonius‘s
son, has received the message of
his father‘s death and returns to
Denmark. King Claudius reveals to
Laertes that Polonius has been
murdered by Hamlet. In the
meanwhile, Ophelia, beaten by
Hamlet‘s insanity and her father‘s
death, goes insane and commits
suicide.

Final combat:
Laertes wounds Hamlet with the
poisoned sword. Without knowing, the
Queen drinks the poisoned wine
destined for Hamlet. During the fight,
Hamlet and Laertes exchange the
swords. Hamlet wounds Laertes with

the poisoned point. The Queen dies.
Laertes unveils Hamlet the King‘s plan
to murder him. Hamlet finds the power
and kill King Claudius. Laertes dies.
Hamlet, mortally wounded, decides to
drink the remaining poison and dies.
,, The rest is silence.‘‘

My opinion:
I think, the story is very
interesting and has good
idea for reflection. I read it 2
years ago, but I think it was
the best book which I have
ever read, however I haven‘t
read many of books.

QUOTE:
‚,To be, or not to be, that is the
question: Whether 'tis nobler
in the mind to suffer , the
slings and arrows of
outrageous fortune,
or to take arms against
a sea of troubles, and
by opposing end them?‘‘

THE END
Thank you for your attention
