1. Fishery production and
trading in Vietnam
1.1 Production and export value (in 2009)
- In 2009, total fishery production is approximately
4.8 thousand tons, in which, aquaculture
production is about 2.27 thousand tons, and
catching production is about 2.56 thousand tons.
- Export value in 2009 is approximately 4251
million USD, while export volume is about 1.21
thousand tons.

2. Fishery quality and safety control in Vietnam
2.1 World-wide approach in fishery quality and safety
control
- Control the whole production chain “From farm to table”;
processors are being mandatorily applied quality
management programs such as HACCP, GMP, SSOP.
- Traceability system is a requirement.
- Legal documents and standards on food hygiene and
safety is more strict and based on risk assessment.
- Deeper socialization in third-party testing and certification
activities
2. Fishery quality and safety control in Vietnam
2.2 Vietnam’s approach in fishery quality and safety control
- Establishment and capacity enhancement of the competent
authority: the National Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance
Department (NAFIQAD) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural
Development (MARD) (previously NAFIQACEN/NAFIQAVED under
the Ministry of Fisheries).
- Perfecting legal documents and standards in compliant with
international standards.
- Upgradding hygiene and safety condition of Vietnamese seafood
processors meeting Vietnam’s sectoral standards and
requirements of importing countries.
- Implementing national monitoring programs in the whole
production chain.
- Signing bilateral and multilateral coperation arrangements on
fishery food safety control with competent authorities of importing
countries.
