What’s the difference between the use
of the adjective?
In sentence 1?
1) Gisele Bündchen is older than Isabeli Fontana and Fernanda Tavares.
And in sentence 2?
2) Gisele Bündchen is the oldest top model.


1) The adjective here is in the comparative form.
Gisele Bündchen is older than Isabeli Fontana and Fernanda
Tavares.
• We use the comparative form to compare TWO things, people or
places.
2) The adjective here is in the superlative form.
Gisele Bündchen is the oldest top model.
• We use the superlative form to compare THREE or MORE things,
people or places.


Superlative adjectives
We use superlative adjectives to compare more than two people, places, things, or ideas.
We always use THE with superlative adjectives.
Group 01: Add EST to one-syllable adjectives. If the adjective ends in E add ST (small –
the smallest / nice- the nicest)
Group 02: Adjectives with a consonant-vowel-consonant sequence, double the final
consonant and add EST. (hot- the hottest)
Group 03: For adjectives ending in Y, change the Y into I and add EST. (pretty- the

prettiest)
Group 04: For adjectives that have more than two syllablles, use MOST or LEAST
(popular - the most/ the least popular)
Group 05: For irregular adjectives we change the superlative form completely
(good- the best/ bad- the worst)
