Paradise lost


On the sun-soaked island of
Majorca, the locals are angry …..
They cashed in on foreign nationals
They don`t deny tourism`s vital
contribution to the local economy.

The industry has transformed Majorca from
one of Spain`poorest parts to the richest in
per canita income.


The popularity of the island as a tourist
destination has been steadily growing since the
1950s, with many artists and academics choosing
to visit and living on the island.

Visitors to Majorca continued to increase with
holiday makers in the 1970s approaching 3 million
a year. In 2010 over 6 million visitors came to
Majorca staying at the many resorts. In 2011 the
Balearic Islands as a whole reached 10.1 million
tourists.


A growth industry
Tourisms is the world`s largest and fastest
growing industry. In 1950, 25m people travelled
abroad , last year it was 750m.

The World Tourism Organization estimates
that by 2020 a lot of people who travel each
year , spending over two trillion dollars.


To millions of tourists,foreign destinations are exotic paradises,
unspoilt , idyllic and full local charm.


Tourists in Africa will be having a
shower and then will see a local
woman with a pot ot of water on
her head,and they are not making
the connection.


Tourists demands so much water .
A tourists in spain uses up 88o
liters of water a day.


In the Caribbean,hundreads of
thousands of people go without
piped water during the high tourist
season , as springs are piped to
hotels.


The host country may
not see many benefits.

Low-end package tourists
tend to stay at big foreignowned hotels.


“Mass tourism

usually leaves little
money inside the
country.”

“Most of the money
ends up with the
airlines,the tour
operators.”


For many countries tourism may still
offer the best hope for development.

Tourism is maybe
the best factor
that can indicate
in the growing up
of economy.


Some advantages of tourism are :
 Employment
 New business
 Re-population
 Increasing community facilities
 Increased commercial and residential development
 Increased community awareness and pride


Tourism along his
advantage , has
some
disadvantages like
blocking traffic…

Another
disadvantage is
pollution the
environment…
