Paul’s grandparents invited him to Ireland. His hobbies are birdwatching
and photography. The weather was terrible − it rained all the time.

Becky: Oh! Who’s that boy?
Kate: Oh, er, I can’t remember. His name was Tim, I think, from
Manchester.
3. Paul: Did you like the food in Spain?

Kate: No, they didn’t. They just wanted English food. They asked for fish
and chips all the time!

4. Kate: This was a party on the beach.

Kate’s mum: Kate. There’s a letter for you. It’s from Manchester.
Kate: From Manchester? Tim!
Mark: Hmph! Kate never wants to dance with me!

This country is in Africa. It is very big, and the population is about 50

1. In his letter, Tim invited Kate to visit him in Manchester for the weekend.

them in Spain. And Tim says that I can bring a friend.

A disastrous weekend!
1. Last December our Geography teacher, Mrs. Taylor, took us to
Yorkshire on a school trip. She wrote to some hotels but in the end she
chose the local youth hotel. The weekend was a disaster!
2. We left Liverpool at 8.00 a.m. on Saturday morning. Mrs. Taylor drove
the school minibus. The journey took hours! We finally arrived in York at
11.00 p.m. Then I started to rain…
3. We woke up early on Sunday morning and looked outside. We could
see the river. The water was very high. We went downstair for breakfast,
but the kitchen in the hotel was flooded. There was water everywhere.
4. Then at luch-time, one of the boys fell into the river. Luckily, Mrs.
Taylor heard his shout and swim out to help him.
5. Sunday afternoon was terrible too. Two girls hired bike and rode into
the centre of the city. But what did they do? They stole some sweets
from a shop. So then the police came! Mrs. Taylor was furious!
6. We returned to Liverpool on Sunday evening. We were cold, wet and
tired. Never again!
