Sample 3-Point Answer:
Part A:
8 balls, 11 games, 0 puzzles
(or equivalent work)
Part B:

Sample explanation:
There are no puzzles left to sell. Between games and balls,
more people bought games and there are plenty of games
remaining in the store. Therefore, I predict a game will be
sold to the next customer.

Sample 3-Point Answer:
Part A:
Answers will vary. 35–40
Sample answer: 36 (basketballs)
(or equivalent work)
OR
Sample explanation:
Looking at the picture, it looks like the basketballs are
stacked about 3 high and 4 wide and 3 deep. So, I
multiplied 3 by 4 by 3 to come up with my estimate of
about 36 basketballs.
Part B:
Answers will vary. 50–100
Sample answer: 80 (students)
(or equivalent work)
OR
Sample explanation:
To predict the number of groups, I used my answer
of 36 basketballs from Part A. I divided 36 by 2
basketballs per group to get 18 groups. I then rounded
18 to 20 . Since there are 3–5 players in each group,
I multiplied 20 by 4 to get 80 for my estimate of the
number of students.

Sample 3-Point Answer:
Part A:
6:45–60 minutes = 5:45 (start time to bake and
end time to prepare)
5:45–30 minutes = 5:15 (start time to prepare)
(or equivalent work)
OR
Sample explanation:
I worked back from the end time to bake. I counted
back 60 minutes from 6:45 to get 5:45 for the start
time to bake. This is also the end time to prepare.
Then, I counted back 30 more minutes from 5:45 to
get 5:15 for the start time to prepare.
Part B:
Accept all correct and complete explanations. A correct and complete
explanation must meet all the criteria listed in Part B of the question.
Sample explanation:
Mike has time while his pie is baking to prepare the
cookies. The pie bakes for 60 minutes from 5:45
to 6:45 . He only needs 45 minutes to prepare the
cookies, so he can prepare the cookies from 6:00 to
6:45 . Then, he can bake the cookies from 6:45 to
7:00 while the pie is cooling.
