PART I
1. Do you live in a house or an apartment?

Yes, definitely
Well, I’m living in a hall of residence in my college. I share the room with another
person so we do not have much private space. However, we can save a lot of
money because the rent is very reasonable and the room is fully furnished. In
addition, I also find living on campus convenient and safe
2. What sort of accommodation would you most like to live in?

Currently, I share a rented apartment with a friend of mine. Although we really get
on well with each other, I still need more privacy. Also, I long/yearn for a little
garden where I can plant some flowers. Therefore, I’m considering taking out a
mortgage and looking for a detached house with a back garden. It doesn’t need
to have a lot of rooms but the rooms must be spacious. I would choose home
comforts by myself and make it a dream house with my own signature.
Vocab:
detached house: a house that is not physically connected to another property
>< terraced house: a house connected on both sides by other properties
dream home: a home you regard as perfect
= ideal home: a perfect home

to take out a mortgage: to borrow a large amount of money, paid back over
several years, in order to buy a house
>< to apply for a mortgage

3. What kind of accommodation do most people live in in your city?

Ho Chi Minh City is small but extremely crowded. The city was designed at first
for only 1 million residents. However, the population in the city has reached nearly
10 million. As a result, it is very difficult, or even out of the question, for most people
to buy a detached house, especially in the downtown districts. Therefore, they
usually choose to live in apartment blocks.

PART II

Describe a house or an apartment you would like to live in.
You should say:

what kind of accommodation it would be

where it would be
who would live there with you

and say why you would enjoy living in this place
Currently, I’m living in a terraced house. Although it offers more privacy compared with
an apartment, the house is still connected with others. Thus, I always long for/ yearn
for a detached house. I love planting flowers, so it would be perfect if there is a back
garden. The house should be spacious to accommodate all the mod cons. Because
the price of such property in the downtown districts is incredibly high, I think I’ll find my
house in the uptown area. I haven’t been married so I think I just live with my beloved
family. There will be a double room for my parents, and two single rooms for my brother
and me. Every evening, we will have dinner together in the kitchen/ dining room while
watching television and sharing things. The reason I want to live in this house is that we
will have more privacy, as I said before, and a little garden where I can relax and pursue
my passion with flowers. When we move there, we definitely will have a big housewarming party

PART III
1. Are there any things that people should pay attention to when looking for an
accommodation?

Well, people can easily find a place to live on the property market nowadays.
However, there are some things that they need to pay attention to before putting
down a deposit. The first thing is about security. We don’t want to live in an area

with a lot of crimes and criminals. Then, we need to consider whether the housing
is conveniently located or not, are there any subways, buses, trains,
supermarkets, hospitals, and schools in the neighborhood. And finally, whether the
housing is fully-furnished or not. If the answer is not, then we have to pay a lot
more to purchase necessary furniture.
2. Should people have their own homes or rent them?

I believe that most people will prefer to own their own homes rather than to live
in rented accommodation. This is because human’s nature is to possess. Having
a home makes people feel safer, and they will really love a house or an apartment
if it is their home. A rented apartment is considered just as a place to live, not a
place to love.
3. What options are available to young couples looking for accommodation in your
country?

I believe that most young couples want a place with much privacy and space, a
detached house, for example. However, they usually have to apply for a
mortgage to purchase a house, but receiving approval for a mortgage
application is not very simple. And if they are able to take out a mortgage, they
still have to face a huge debt. Therefore, others also hunting for houses choose
to live in rented accommodation to save money. They can rent an apartment and
then do up the property with some home comforts to make it feel like their home.
Or young couples can simply live with their parents.
