(dog family)…

TASK 1
1.Do you like animals?
I would say I don’t hate them. Iam not very much of an animal lover but I like
them if they exist and I am able to see them. But, owing an animal might bo
something I won’t prefer.
2.What’s your favorite animal? Why?
I love cows a lot. I think they bring in lot of peace and care in a house. You sê
them, they rarely make any noise and still for some reasons when I look into thỉ
eyes, It feels very peaceful sand lovely.
3.Are people in your country fond of animal?
Yes, they are. People in my county love animals. You could find a dog or cow
being owned by a family. And it is not for any monetary reasons but because they
like being around them and caring for them. Animals do bring a certain extent of
happiness and togetherness in a family.

4. What kinds of animals as a pet do the people have in your country?
As a pet, most of the people have dogs in their house. Dogs are preferred over

other animals because firstly they are very friendly and loyal to their owner. Also,
they help in guarding the house against all the possible odds.
5. Do children like animals ?
It all depends, I assume. There are some who love animals and then there are even
those who are scared of them and not like them. Also, there are some who like to
irritate animals just for the sake of fun.
6. What kind of animal do you think children like?
I think for most part, children love dogs and cast. Because these are the animals
children can have lot of fun with. They can play and roam about with them.
7. What was your favorite animal when you were a child?
I was not a very particular animal lover as a child. I used to get irritated when
people annoyed or irritated animals, but going out and playing with them was not
my idea of having fun.
8. Do you have any pets when you were a child?
Yes, my father got a dog for us as we were child. But, I remember he was so
aggressive the we rarely played with it. He used to kept only for guarding the
house. However, late on when he started recognizing us he allowed us to come
near him. I remember, my brother actually bonded a lot with him so when he died
it was a true shock for my brother.
9. What do you think are the benefits of a child having a pet?
I think a child learns a lot from a pet, especially unconditional love and that is
really important. In time when people just do things for the benefit of doing it, a
pet teaches you that apart from the which are important in life.
10. If you have children in the future, will you allow them to raise a pet?
Definitely yes. I think having a pet in the house is very important because it allows
the kids to learn about love, patience, respect and so much more. It brings
happiness and togetherness and tells you that no matter if the other person is more
or les powerful you should stand for the right.

TASK 2
Describe a wild animal from your country.

You should say
What the animal is and what it looks like
Where it lives
And explain how people in your country ( or you) feel about this animal.

My favorite animal is without a doubt the rhinoceros, or rhinp, as it is more
commonly know. It’s found in many countries around the world, including Viet
Nam, although unfortunate it is an endangered species its number are generally
decreasing.
There days, you can still find rhinos thoughoust Asia, in places like Northeast India
and Nepal., as well as across Africa, including South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Typically they live in grasslands because they subsist on a dieat of grasses and
leaves. Sadly, in Viet Nam, the last one has been announced shot down by illegal
hunters about 6 year ago.
I like rhinos a lot because they are quite gentle and trusting animals, and I feel a
great deal of symparthy for them. They have lived on this planet for millions of
years but humans are now hunting them to extinction. Their gentle, peaceful way
of life should be an inspiration for us; not something we take advantage of in order
to kill them. That’s the reason why I’ve been part of campaign of fighting for their
protection around the world. It would be such a blessing to ever find rhinos coming
back on to the grasslands of Viet Nam again.

Describe a wild animal that you have seen.
I remember when I was younger, we went to the local zoo as part of a school
expedition. We spent most of the day there and saw many different animals, but
my favorite was the tiger, so I’ll talk about that – it was in a large cage, which was
full of enormous rocks and some large trees too. It was bigger then I thought it
would it would be, but then I was only a chirl at the time. I’d seen plenty of tigers
on TV, in movies and TV program, but it seemed a lot bigger in real life.
It was really like watching a big cat , the way it moved around. The colors were
amazing , the yellow, white and black stripes on its body were spectacular. As I

3

was watching , it jumped up and started climbing up one of the big rocks. When it
reached the top it slowly turned around and then looked down at everything,
moving its head from side to side, like it was observing everything going on
around it. I felt very excited because I though it was looking at me, It was really
amazing!
I saw the same tiger a few more times over the years, because I used to live quite
close to the zoo, so I would go and visit , mabe a couple of times a year.
Unfortunately, one day when I went to visit , the people at the zô told me that the
tiger had died, apparently it was very old. I was sad for a while because it was so
beautiful to watch,; elegant and powerful.
Describe your favorite animal.
I like all animals in general, but I think my favorite would be a dog. A dog is a
domestic animal and can be seen in almost all house and streets of my country. The
best part about dogs is that apart from being a great keeper, they also shower love
on their owners. A person owing a dog get love and care from the dog and the dog
makes sure that no one harms his or her owner.
Although, most people like dogs, every one has different choices as there are

various, breeds of dog such as pugs, golden retriever, bulldog and German
shepherd etc. Interstingly, the characteristics of dogs depend on their breed. For
instance, a bulldog is more aggressive than a pug and is more likely to bite you.
Even more, the food requirements vary with breed. As a matter of fact, a smaller of
fact, a smaller breed would require more energy and food than a larger or a
medium size breed. One needs to know the breed of the dog and provide the food
accordingly.
A dog surely becomes a part of family and often it has been seen that they get
weak in the absence of their owners. The connection between dogs and humans is
almost electric and I believe one must surely have one.
Describe your favorite animal.
I’m going tell you about my pet cat- he’s practically a member of my family – I’ve
always had cats and I suppose I’m slightly silly about them. He’s just a common or
gaararden cat- a moggy - not a special breed or anything like that. Though his
colouing is rather special. He’s all white but has a ginger tail and ginger ears and
another patch on his body. He looka as if he might be a pedigree cat and some
people have asked. But as I was saying he’s quite common really.

4

He’s an inside cat. I’d love to let him outside and roam but we live fairly near a
roald and it just isn’t safe. It’d break my heart is anything happened to him – you
know if he was run over. You might laugh at this but I do sometimes take him
outside for a walk - on a lead- just into the back garden so that he can chew on the
grass – that’s one of his great loves.
What does he eat ? Until very recently he only ate chicken because he was allergic
to any kind of cat food. I used to cook chicken for him 3 times a day! But I’m
pleased to say that he is now back on a regular diet now.
And the reason why I love him? It’s hard to explain. He’s just a member off the

family now. And I love him just like I would a person.

TASK 3
Pets
1. What kinds of pets are most popular in your country?
Dog and cat are by far the most common. This must be because of their
perfectly adaptive instincts to fit for domestic life. A lot of people also keep
guard dogs to protect their property.
2. What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of having a pet?
A pet can be a good friend: sometimes the best friend. Pets are also great
playmates for children. I think it’s very good for kids to have a pet when
growing up. The disadvantage are that pets arc expensive to feed and care for,
and require a lot of time, depending on the kind of pet.
3. Do you think there should be law to protect the welfare of pets and farm
animals?
I don’t really know. I guess there should be responsible enough to treat pets and
farm animals well. But since many people are too selfish to care, we must have

5

some laws. But the laws shouldn’t become so important that they nearly equal
laws protecting the welfare of human beings.
4. Compared with the past, have there been any changes concerning pets
in your country/hometown?
I think yes, there have been many observable changes in our country since past

few decades. With the coming of globalization and people going for
modernization, there has been a step decline in people owing cows. Earlier one
could see most of the house having a cow, because first it is treated as God in
our country and then there are some monetary benefits associated with cows.
One can sell its milk and other milk products.
5. Do you think cities are suitable places for keeping a pet?
A pet requires 24/7 care and if in a city one can provide that care, there should
not be any issue in keeping a pet. I think with house in cities so close to each
other keeping pets like cows or other big ones is not possible. But, for he ones
smaller in size like dog, cat or fishes, it is completely feasible and one should
definitely go for them. But, yes if one has a very strict working lifestyle,
keeping a pet will only be disastrous for the pet.
Wild animals
1. Are there any wild animals in your country that cannot be found in any
other country?
Yes. The costumed ape and the Saola. There a probably also some dirds and
other animals that are only found here, but I don’t know anything about them.
It’s sad, but the animals that are found only Viet Nam are the ones that are the
most endangered. I think that’s the same for other countries, though.
2. How do people feel about the protection of wild animals?
Many of us arc only now beginning to learn about the importance of protecting
wild animals, as well as the environment they live in. the new generations arc
being taught to respect wild animals. But people never even see them except on
TV, so they only have a vague idea of the need to protect them. I admire the
many brave people who have made sacrifices to protect wild animals, wich has
inspired a lot great movie makers.

6

3. What do you think are some of the benefits to humans of protecting
wild animals?
I’m not sure what benefits there arc. But I know that everything in nature is
there for a reason. If one species dies out, it can upset the balance of nature and
do a lot damage in the long run. Wild animals don’t always directly affect
people, but often, they fill a special role in the balance that we also part of, and
affect other species or plants that we are directly dependent on. We should
protect them, because we may lie protecting ourselves without knowing it in the
long run.
4. What is the purpose of having zoos?
Zoos are really a compromise, I think. They are a way for people who live in
the city, especially children, to sec wild animals. But 1 think that unless the zoo
are the best quality, they shouldn’t be operated, as it’s cruel to keep wild
animals in small cages or dirty surroundings. High standard zoos can be good,
as they educate the general public about the world around them. But 1 still think
it would be better if people could leant about animals straight from nature, not
seeing them in the zoos, compromise.
5. How do you think zoos in your country could be improve?
Many zoos in Viet Nam are poorly equipped, due to lack of funding. Zoos are
not so popular or common. I think that they could be improved by more
cooperation with other zoos in the west that are well-operated and have good
techniques and facilities we can learn from.
