Project
As we all know, there are many popular jobs in our country at any time, such as:
teacher, doctor, engineer, CEO, police, pilot, and farmer. In addition, recent years, some
new professions appear like: marketing, customer service, webmaster,…You can find a
long list of jobs which you consider to choose and the need of them at different levels in
different regions all over the world.
But have you ever wondered about the similarities between these jobs? Oh, all of
them require us to have very high intellectual faculties. When we take these jobs, you
must work under high pressure and they almost just satisfy your material needs. So why
don’t you finding a job, which both brings you happiness and material wealth? We’ll
come back to tell you about chosen job of us today – Chef.
I’m sure you only think that chef is a person who cooks food in the kitchen. So
these information below will make you surprise! After learing about the facts, we know
that chef can be divided into 3 types:
- Firstly is Executive Chef (Head Chef), is the professional pinnacle to which
many chefs aspire. Chef’s are kitchen managers payroll, food-cost, personnel
management, menu creation and essentially everything that happens in the kitchen falls
within their scope of responsibility.
- Secondly is Sous Chef ( or Assistant Chef) is the right-hand to the Executive
Chef. Sous Chefs manage a staff of assistant chefs, cooks and kitchen workers, as well as
creating dishes for the menu.
- Finally is Pastry Chefs. They are responsible for creating chocolates, breads,
and pastries that find their way to the dessert menu. They work in concert with bakers,
chocolatiers and others dessert and pastry specialists.
The first requirement to a chef, and also to any other professions. It’s Passion.
1. Passion
I remember that someone used to say “Ideal is lamplighter”, it’ll lead you to
success. If you don’t have passion, you never can do anything. Let’s imagine, when you
have to do a job which you don’t love, like a obligation. Soon, you’ll feel tired and



always want to give it up. On the contrary, when you take your chosen job with passion
and pleased, you may strive for it by any way. Passion helps you overcome many
pressure everyday, overcome the thought that ”I must do it to earn money” and forget
tiredness. You will love your career more than yourself. No dout in my mind, chelf job
become a real profession belonging to mentality.
But only with passion, it’s very hard for you to become a good cook. Now, you
need to have skills and qualities
2. Skills and Qualities
- Creativity: Chefs are often in charge of creating new and innovative food and desserts
that will bring in customers. Knowledge of ingredients and how to use them in a creative
way will serve you well. You know, all customers always want to try unique dishes.
- Hand-Eye Coordination: Chefs always work with knives and other precision tools and
must have excellent technique when cutting and preparing food. Hand-eye coordination is
needed.
- Sense of Taste and Smell: Delicious food brings in customers is very important. Chefs
are the last line of defense to make sure each piece of food is safe, prepared correctly and
tasty.
- Time Management Skills: Kitchens get busy quickly, food can get ruined easily if you
cannot manage your time. Great time management will help you avoid burned or spoiled
food and angry customers.
- Leadership Skills: Being a good leader, who can assign tasks, hire the right people,
motivate workers in a high stress environment will help everything better.
- Business Acumen: Chefs must understand the restaurant business. This means
balancing expenses with profits, managing staff, minimizing waste, and more. These
skills and qualifications are required to any chef.

Culinary training schools:


If you want to become a masterchef, but you don’t know where you can learn to cook
professionally. Here are some suggestions for you:
- If you have enough material condition and get support from your family, I really think
that you should study abroad, because they have many experiences about training chef.
Le Cordon Bleu, regarded as one of the world’s leading culinary art institutes, provides
training classes in classic French culinary techniques. Teacher are many famous
masterchefs all over the world. This school have three branches, locating in both France,
US and Australia.
- In Vietnam, you can enrol to study in some schools like: Hanoi Intermediate Culinary
School or Hanoi Intermediate Culinary and Professional Competence Hotel School. You
can get diploma and certificate programs in difference subjects.
