I. INTRODUCTION
1. The reason for choosing the theme:
In extending the trend of integration and exchange with countries around the
world, equipped with the knowledge of the common language - English is
imperative for each of us. To grasp a foreign language the issue and use of
vocabulary learning is very important. But English vocabulary, international
language, varied and plentiful. How could a simple vocabulary and fastest? As a
teacher of English I explore how I remembered impart knowledge in the best
way for my students.
There are many methods and teaching tips were included in common for
teachers to discuss and apply. Depending on the subjects the students, depending
on the environment and conditions that each teacher choose the appropriate
method to achieve the best results. I tested included English songs on the
inspection process and consolidate after teaching vocabulary to students in
grades 6 and initially had positive results. Therefore, I would like to give some
of his comments about teaching English vocabulary through songs.
2. Duties study:
To make a good topic, need to do the following tasks:
- Look at the English documentation.
- Model teaching, teaching experiment.
- Teaching watching of colleagues.
- Test, evaluate the results of the grasp of all students so that adjustments,
additional reasonable.
3. Object and scope of the study:
The theme was tested in the second half of the first semester of the academic
year 2012-2013. I have adopted the method of teaching English through songs in

some main classes and in the training classes. This research project provides a
method of checking and consolidating English vocabulary of the learners in
Grade 6, Dien Bien Secondary School, Thanh Hoa city.

4. Objective:
This research article to provide one of the check and reinforce English
vocabulary of Grade 6 students, allowing students to quickly acquire new words,
to obtain a contribution of capital from rich in the learning process and improve
their knowledge of English.
5. Research methodology:
- Methods of observation: The implementation of self-exploration theme
study, conducted colleagues' period, visiting colleagues' classes.
- Methods to exchange and discussion: After the hour of his colleagues,
who carried out the subject and co-workers to exchange, discuss and from which
to have experience for lessons.
- Experimental Methods: Teachers conduct teaching experience required
for specific purpose of some vocabulary lessons.
- Methods of investigation: Teachers ask questions to check understanding
the content assessment of student lessons. Results of the research were evaluated
and statistics through regular tests, 15 minutes, 45 minutes, first semester exams
and first semester summation.
6. Structure of the subject:
The theme includes 8 parts:
Part 1: Rationale to implement the project.
Part 2: The reality of teaching and learning situation before testing research
projects.
Part 3: Steps to implement assessment methods and strengthen specific English
vocabulary.

Part 4: The experience of myselve in building a vocabulary lesson, using song.
Part 5: Introduction of English songs to teach vocabulary for students in grades
6.
Part 6: Results of the survey conducted after the subject.
Part 7: Some problems need to be solved.

learning of English is better
II. CONTENT
1. The rationale:
In the integration and development of the Party and State have been
increasingly focused on training and improving the quality of teaching and
learning foreign languages, especially English.
English language system is extremely complex. So even when you were a
student of class 6, we need to focus on helping the students have good study
skills to practice.
For foreign language in general and in English in particular, the
vocabulary and grammar is the first important factor facilitating development of
skills to acquire and use language to students. However, any method is not
suitable for all pupils. Although new words of each song was introduced in a
basically and diversity, student comprehension and readable immediately and
under are from immediately, after that, the funds of vocabulary which you check
only even partially. The problem is how to help students have a rich vocabulary
and long term?
Today, the education has taken many positive innovative methods in
teaching of English and was very helpful to teachers in the process of imparting
knowledge to students.
In my opinion, to help students learn and absorb all good article there

should be a method of attracting, engaging, creating a positive learning
atmosphere and comfortable for students, avoid cramped, mold one excessively.
One of the methods that can meet criteria and have been effective is to teach
vocabulary and English grammar through songs.
2. Real:
I was assigned to teach subjects in English class 6B, the 2012-2013
school year. This is a class that most of the students are obedient, hard- working,

most children understand and pronounce good words on class. However, it is
inevitable from the sometimes boring students to learn new words and difficult
to acquire right lessons. In the first half of the semester I, I used methods of
teaching vocabulary normal.
When introducing a new word I perform the following steps:
- Read newwords sample from at least three times.
- Tell the class in chorus first and then individual repeat.
- Writing new words on the board.
- Read to students and tell the class in chorus- individual class.
- Ask students to write in their notebooks.
- Given Vietnamese.
- Ask students to write Vietnamese in their notebooks .
- Read again to the students identify stress syllables.
- Mark stress syllables and ask students to mark it on the notebook.
- Check understanding of students .
I usually use one of the test procedures and reinforce vocabulary as: Rub out
and remember, Slap the board, What and where, Matching, Bingo .... The results
are only one part of students to quickly grasp and remember in the classroom.
This method, class 6B has resulted in mid- first semester exam was:
Excellent:


5/45 students - 11.11%

Good:

12/45 students - 26.67%

Ok:

19/45 students - 42.22%

Weak:

9/45 students - 20%

3. The solution of this problems:
Aware of the problem to improve the efficiency of communicating
vocabulary and English grammar rich and complex, instead of using the usual
tricks, I bravely put some songs in teaching hours to test and reinforce students'
vocabulary.
I would like to present a vocabulary lesson using songs, the following :

Choose appropriate songs:
Not any English songs can also be used to teach students. To teach
students to obtain sufficient quantities from serving lesson they must choose the
appropriate song. I usually choose the songs for children both fun and simple,
easy to understand. Period 22, Unit 4, "Big or small?", The C1, C2, C3, page
49, Text book English 6, to check and reinforce the vocabulary, I use the song

"Wake up wake up":
Wake up wake up brush your teeth
Get up get up get dressed quick
Wake up wake up wash your hands
Get up get up get up quick
Wake up wake up wash your face
Get up get up have breakfast
Wake up wake up go to school
Get up get up get up quick
Steps:
- Read 3 times new words: get up; get dressed; brush; wash; have breakfast; go
to school.
- Read to the class, class in chorus and then individual repeat.
- Write new words on the board.
- Give the students in chorus - then individual student.
- Ask students to write in their notebooks.
- Give Vietnamese.
- Ask students to write in their notebooks mean Vietnamese.
- Ask students to write Vietnamese in their notebooks .
- Read again to the students identify stress syllables.
- Mark stress syllables and ask students to mark it on the notebook.

- Play the song one time for students to become familiar with the melody and
rhythm of the song.
- Introduce a song with missing words to check and ask the students to listen to
2 times and fill in the blanks:
Wake up wake up (1) ......... your teeth

- Students listen and fill in the blanks.
- Call some students give their answers.
- Let students listen sentence by sentence and provide the answer:

- If I have time, students will listen again and they can sing this song easily.
Result:
Most of the students are excited about learning more can simultaneously
listen and fill in the exact answer. Lessons come alive and more attractive to
students. Listening to songs and sing along to help them more accurately
pronounce words learned in lessons and developing their listening skills.

After researching

I've learned the experience for myselves in building a


vocabulary lesson, using songs to check like following:
- Select and collect the songs simple fun, suitable for student.
- The amount of words in the song should meet most of the words in the lesson.
- Looking to buy the tapes or download in the internet to have many songs.
- Time to listen to a song and fill the answer should not be prolonged.
- It is possible for students to listen and learn to sing the song again in the
extensive training and extracurricular hour is the most appropriate.

6. Outcomes of the project:

Music has always attracted all ages, especially students. Hence, the addition
of English songs in teaching has achieved many positive results in the training
of teachers as well as the learning of students in English. Besides, the English
song has helped enrich the spiritual life of the students, making them more
passionate this subject.
The songs were done when I give my students excited enthusiastic
participation at school. Many shy student, less involved building all have more
boldly and more exciting speech in class.
Specifically, after a period of teaching vocabulary in conjunction with the
English song student results achieved last semester I:
Excellent:

18/45 students - 40%

Good:

11/45 students- 24.44%

OK:

12/45 students - 26.67%

Weak:

4/45 students - 8.89%

Through this data, we can see right visible progress of students in class 6B.

About good results as above, what makes me most excited my students
increasingly love for English. It is motivation to help children learn better
discipline.
7. The problems to be solved
The introduction of English songs to teach a very encouraging result.
However, with this initiative I just applied for a class, can not replicate all the
other grades for the following reasons:
- Objects of students in each grade are different knowledge, thus choosing the
appropriate songs for lessons as well as the pupils are not easy. Not lesson there
is a song in order to check the words to the students because it requires elements
are sufficient in both quantity and content of language in every song.
- Music makes you always exciting, comfortable to cause a distraction while
continuing class.
- Lessons use songs that disturb the next door.

8. Proposals and recommendations:
My school

has facilitated me and my colleagues in teaching foreign

. However, starting from the basis of theory, practice, teaching

purposes as well as the successes and constraints in the implementation of the
subject. To contribute to the teaching of English to reach quality increasingly, I
have practical proposal like the following:
- Equipped more and more with facilities for foreign language teaching and
learning, such as retrofit outlet, the speaker in the class, adding the English

music recordings.
III. CONCLUSION
Teaching is an art, so my opinions may not be called innovation, because
lesson and the quality of lesson is to be successful that will depend on many
involved factors such as: professional qualifications, experience, teaching
materials .... As for me, I have applied the above method and have obtained
positive results. I hope that my ideas and ways to attract students to the lessons
that will be the scientific method to help Grade 6 students learning English
better and achieve better results.
In my opinion, this is the first step successfully to teach English in grade 6.
However, inevitable omissions as presented. I have to learn colleagues and
adjust in the teaching process.
I look forward to inputing and helping of colleagues so that I can complete
this topic to helps teaching and learning English better.
