Do you play sports?
Yes, I’m so into playing sports. I play volleyball on a regular basis with my
college friends. I find it a great way to increase flexibility and reduce stress
after hard-working hours.

Do you prefer computer games to sports?
Uhm…I would say no. I personally think that playing computer games brings
no benefit and it just wastes time meanwhile I can improve my health and have
a good time when doing sports with my friends.

What do you use your computer for?
Oh, when I was younger, I mainly used my laptop for entertainment reasons like
browsing news sites, playing video games or watching movies but now, I can do
these things with my phone in a faster and more convenient way so I just use my
computer when I need to use Word or Powerpoint for my job.

Do you like listening to music?
Yes, I’m a big fan of music. Listening to music allows me temporarily
forget all the problems that I’m dealing with. I also find it a great way
to relax and recharge my batteries after a hard-working day.

Would you like to play a musical instrument? If yes, which one?
Well, being a senior student, I’m pretty busy with my study so I haven’t really
thought about learning to play a musical instrument, but come to think about it, if I
could make some free time, I would like to take some guitar lessons. I love the
variety of sounds a guitar can make.

Part 2: Situation: You are going on a three-day vacation. Among the following objects, which would you bring with you: A book, an MP3 player, a
laptop?

BODY I: ADVANTAGES OF THE THING YOU CHOOSE.
BODY II: DISADVANTAGES OF THE TWO OTHER THINGS
CONCLUSION

INTRODUCTION
People have many choices with regard to what they can bring with while
going on holiday: a book, an MP3 player, a laptop. If I was given a threeday vacation, I would choose to bring my laptop for the following reasons.

BODY I
Firstly, bringing my laptop could help me catch up with everybody. I could take a lot of photos
and then post them on my Facebook, sharing unforgettable memories with my friends and family. I
can’t imagine living without my laptop for 3 days. Secondly, I could use it to listen to my favorite
songs or watch a blockbuster before going to bed, which sounds so relaxing, right?

BODY II
There are several reasons why I don’t choose the other options. In my opinion, spending time reading book while
travelling sounds so boring and tedious. I’m neither a book-aholic nor a book-lover. I would join outdoor activities
instead, you know… like surfing, swimming or hiking. To me, an MP3 player is something outdated. Hardly do

people use it nowadays because smart phones allow them to listen to music in a faster and more convenient way. It’s
just a redundant stuff.

CONCLUSION
In short, if I were in the situation, I would opt to carry my
laptop with me owing to its unique features.

PART 3 : TOPIC DEVELOPMENT

Games

Social networking

Computer addicts

Need to reduce stress

[your own ideas]

INTRODUCTION
In my opinion, everything has its good and bad side and computer is not an
exception. I agree that there are more and more technophiles nowadays. There
may be many reasons for this.

BODY I

Firstly, many teenagers find games online very attractive because users are constantly given scores, new targets and frequent rewards to
keep them playing. Many children now spend hours each day trying to progress through the levels of a game to get a higher scores than
their friends.
Secondly, from my point of view, social networking can be the second culprit. Let’s take Facebook as an example, when people post
something and immediately get a bunch of likes, suddenly, they feel Internet-popular and continue keeping update with their friends.
Besides, everyone wants to follow the accounts of funny people and celebrity. Social media provides endless entertainment for the bored.

BODY II
Thirdly, many people use computer as a useful way to seek solace and escape after hard-working hours without
knowing that they gradually become computer addicts and computers become a dispensable part of their lives. They
can spend hours watching movies, browsing news sites without feeling bored.
In my view, being stressed and unhappy can contribute greatly to the development of a computer addiction. People who
cannot easily relate to their peers are also at a higher risk of developing a computer addiction. That’s all I want to say.

What should people do to limit their computer usage?
Well, there are many situations that people cannot avoid using their computers. For example, whitecollar workers usually need computer for their jobs. However, we can reduce the time spending on
social networking and games. We should spend times on other useful hobbies like reading books,
taking part in clubs, doing volunteer jobs or hanging out with friends.

Do you think games are as dangerous as alcohol or drugs?
Uhm, this is a good question. All of them can make people addictive and I definitely think games are as
hazardous as the two other things. Like alcohol and drugs, games can change people’s behaviours and
personality negatively, causing potential problems for not only individuals but also their family and society,
like truancy, delinquency, suicide and so on.

Do you think cyberbullying is dangerous?

Yes, I certainly agree that becoming a victim of public can have an extremely negative influence
on one’s feelings or even one’s life. You know, there are a ton of articles about young people who
kill themselves after being ridiculed by netizens’ sarcasms on Facebook. Social networking is just
a virtual world but the mental scars it brings are real.
