Making Friends
Friends can do things together.
A friend can play with you and
laugh with you.
A friend can help you fix a
problem.
A friend can teach you new things.
2

One way to make a friend is
to talk.
When Joe met Eva, he asked her
lots of questions.

Then Eva asked Joe lots
of questions.
They learned all about each other.
That’s how they got to be friends.
3

One way to make a friend is
to share.
Sal shared her markers with Tom.
Then Sal and Tom both made
silly drawings.
They had lots of fun together.
That’s how they got to be friends.
4

Good Friends
Ana and Jada are good friends.
Jada can cheer Ana up
when Ana feels sad.
Ana helps Jada to be brave
when Jada feels afraid.
They talk about their feelings.
5

Being the Same
All friends have things that
are the same.

Friends may look the same
or like the same games.
Meg and Bill both like to color.
That’s how they are the same.
6

Being Different
Friends also have things that
are different.
Friends may look different
or have different ideas.
Ed is tall, but Lee is shorter.
That’s how they are different.
7

Staying and Leaving
Sometimes friends get to
stay together.
They may live on the same street
or go to the same school.
But sometimes friends have to
say goodbye.
They may move away
or go to a different school.
8

Jen and Pam live far apart.

But they are still friends.
They talk on the telephone
and write letters.
Jen visits Pam in the summer,
and Pam visits Jen in the winter.
9

New and Old
Some friends are old friends.
You may know an old friend
for a long time.
You can make new friends, too.
Friends can be old and new,
and they may live near and far.
There are many different kinds
of friends!
