A. PRONUNCIATION:
1.What is elision?
It’s the act of leaving out the sound of part of a
word when you are pronouncing it.
2. The rules of elision:
a. Loss of weak vowel after p, t, k
Ex: potato [p'teitou] ; tomato [t'mɑ:tou]
Canary [k'neəri] ; Perhaps [p'hæps]
Today [tə'dei]
b. Weak vowel + n, l, or r
Ex: tonight [tə'nait]; police [pə'li:s]
correct [kə'rekt]
c. Avoidance of complex consonant clusters.

Ex: acts [æks]
Looked back [luk bæk]
