Conditional sentences contain
an if-clause and a main

clause.

Examples
If I have enough money, I will go to US.

TYPES
1. If + Present Tense

1. For the second conditional, were replaces was
E.g. If I were to lose my job, I wouldn't be able to pay for
my dream car.


2. Instead of if not, we can use unless
“ if ” + negative action = “unless” + positive action
Compare:
Your bird will fly away if you don’t close the window.
= Your bird will fly away unless you close the window.
The meaning of both sentences is the same, but the action
after ‘unless’ (close) is the opposite of the action after ‘if’
(don’t close).


3. Type 2 and 3, we can inverse the
Subject and delete IF
Example:
If I were younger, I would play tennis.
= WERE I younger, I would play tennis.
If he had studied hard, he would have passed his exam.
= HAD he studied hard, he would have passed his exam.
