UNIT 14 INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS
Period 84 A. READING
A. Aims: By the end of the lesson Ss will be able to:
- Scan for specific information
- Answer the questions
Knowledge:
• - General knowledge: Students can gain knowledge of some international organizations and
their roles in the world.
- Language: Giving Vietnamese equivalents to words and phrases
- New words: Words related to International Organizations
B. Teaching aids: Textbook, posters, pictures.
C. Teaching method: Communicative approach and pictures of the logos of relevant international
organizations
D. Procedure:
TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES
I. WARM – UP ( 5')
Teacher (T) guides students (Ss) to look at the logo
of the United Nations and those of some other
organizations and answer the guiding questions.
1. What organizations do these logos represent?
2. What roles do they play in the world?
- Leads in new lesson: U14: INTERNATIONAL
ORGANIZATIONS
II. PRESENTATION ( 35 min.)
1. Pre- reading:
* Explains some new words if necessary
- humanitarian (a -n): tính nhân đạo

- adopt (v): thông qua, chấp nhận

2. While reading :
Task1: Choose the best words in the box to
complete the following sentences
- Ask students to read through the text once and
Students look at the pictures and answer the questions
based on their background knowledge.
1. The United Nations, the United Nations Children’s
Fund, World Trade Organization, World Health
Organization, etc.
2. Their roles are to improve different aspects of life, i.e.,
health, education, children’s condition of living, trade,
etc., in the world. - Ss pay attention and answer the
questions.
II. PRESENTATION
1. Pre- reading:
- Ss pay attention and take notes
• acronym: a word formed from the first letters of
the words that make up the name of something.
Eg: World Health Organization = WHO / hu: /
• abbreviation: short form of a word
Eg.: United Nations = UN /ju: ‘en /

1. United Nations: UN (abbr.) /ju: ‘en / (Liên hiệp quốc)
2. United Nations Children’s Fund: UNICEF
(acr.) /’ju:nisef/ (Quỹ nhi đồng quốc tế)
3. Food and Agriculture Organization: FAO (abbr.) /,ef ei
‘ou / ( Tổ chức lương thực, nông nghiệp thế giới)
4. World Health Organization:WHO (acr.) /hu:/
5. World Trade Organization: WTO(abbr.) / ,d blju: ti:

2. While reading :
- Ss work in pairs to do the Task 1, 2, 3
- Present on the extra board & then tick on the board
- Others give feedback and correction.

check their prediction
- Asks Ss to read the passage silently, stop when
they meet a new word or a phrase in the passage
which have the following meaning given in the
Task 1.
- Gives feedback.
Task 2: Decide whether the statements are true
or false
- Guides Ss the way to do Task 2 and ask them to
work in pairs
- T calls some Ss to read theirs answers and explain
their choices.
- T comments and gives feedbacks.
Task 3: Answer the following questions

- Asks Ss to read the passage silently and answer
the questions individually
- Asks Ss to work in pairs to compare their answers.
- Calls on some Ss to write the answers on the
board.
- Checks with the class and then gives feedback.
3. Post reading: Fill a suitable word for the
following paragraph
- Ask Ss to work in groups:
- Go around for help
- Call on some pairs to present
- Give comments .
III. CONSOLIDATION & HOMEWORK ( 5')
