Mrs Mi is talking with her neighbor, Mrs Ha. She looks very
worried but Mrs Mi doesn' t know what is wrong with her neighbor.
Mrs Ha is worried about her water bill because it is enormous. She
must pay 200.000 dongs for it. Therefore, Mrs Mi gives Mrs Ha
advice on how to save water, She advises Mrs Ha to get her husband
or a plumber to check her water pipes and to reduce the amount of
water. Bath use twice as much water as showers, so Mrs Mi suggests
taking showers. She advises Mrs Ha to remember to turn off the
faucets. A dripping faucet can waste 500 liters of water a month.
However, Mrs Ha never thinks about that before.

- Provide students 5 verbs + prepositions and then
ask them to match the verbs with the pictures on page 64

-Picture 5: turn off the faucet
Practice 1 Have students work in pairs to do LanguageFocus 2
exercise on page 63. They have to use suitable verbs to
complete the sentences.

1. Hanh can't go to the movies with us tonight. She
will have to look after her little sister.
2. If we go on wasting water, there will be a
shortage of fresh water in a few decades.
3.Turn on the TV for me, will you? I want to watch
weather forecast.

Practice 2 - Have students work individually to do the
exercise Language focus 1 on page 63. They have to
completethe sentences by using correct connectives.

Noughts and Crosses:

- Divide the class into two teams. One team is
Nought (O) and the other is Cross (X).
- Have two teams choose the words in the boxes in
turns. And make sentences with the connectives given. If
the sentence is correct, they will get one mark.
- The team which has 3 Noughts or 3 Crosses in a
line will win the game.
