I. WARM UP

* Period 69: Writing ( Writing a book report )

Activity 1: Answer the questions.
• What kind of books do you enjoy
reading ?(comic, thriller, detective,
science ,novel books or short stories ).
•What books / stories have you
studied lately ?

II. Pre- writing:(Work in groups)


Read the story “Chi Pheo” and report some main
ideas about the book.

“Chi Pheo” a short story is written by
Nam Cao.The story set in Vu Dai village,
where Chi Pheo lives. He grows up and
becomes a strong and kind farmer. He
works for Ba Kien but Ba Kien put him in
prison. When he returns , he meets Thi No
and falls in love with her.…. .
Nam Cao is famour for the short stories
– interesting, sensitive,sympathetic. They
give us pictures of the hard life of poor
farmers in the old society.

Activity 1: Pre- writing
Task 1: Below are questions you have to answer when writing a
report on a book, but they are jumbled. Work with a partner. Put
the questions under the correct headings.

4. Who is the author?
5. What is the main theme of the story?
6. Who are the main characters?

8. What is the plot of the story?

Read the following book report, divide it into three
parts according to the headings. Answer the 9
questions in the course book.

New Yorkers, short stories of human interest, is
written by O’ Henry. The story is, of course, set in New
York, where a housewife, a tramp, a lawyer, a waitress,
an actress – ordinary people living ordinary lives there
at the beginning of the century. The city has changed
greatly since that time, but its people are much the
same. Some are rich, some are poor, some are happy,
some are sad, some have found love, some are looking
for love.
O’ Henry’s famous short stories – sensitive,
funny, sympathetic – give us vivid pictures of the
everyday lives of these New Yorkers.

Task 3: Write a report on the book you have read
recently based on the results of Tasks 1 and 2.
Suggested answers:
I would like to introduce you New Yorkers, short stories of human
interest. The story was written by O’ Henry. It is, of course, set in New
York, where a housewife, a tramp, a lawyer, a waitress, an actress –
ordinary people living ordinary lives there at the beginning of the
century. The city has changed greatly since that time, but its people
are much the same. Some are rich, some are poor, some are happy,
some are sad, some have found love, some are looking for love. New
Yorkers is really a sensitive, funny, and sympathetic story. It gives
us vivid pictures of the everyday lives of these New Yorkers.

Alexandre Dumas; 1802 - 70), nhà
văn Pháp. Mới đầu, soạn những vở
kịch đram lãng mạn: từ 1825, cùng
với bạn cho diễn vở "Săn bắn và
tình yêu"; tiếp đến    là các vở
"Hăngri III và triều đình" (1829),
"Ăngtôni" (1831), vv.. Sau đó,
chuyển sang thể loại tiểu thuyết và
viết rất nhiều, tổng số lên tới 257
tập. Thời kì 1840 - 50, là giai đoạn
sáng tác sung sức nhất: tiểu thuyết
"Ba chàng ngự lâm pháo thủ"
(1844)

với các nhân vật sôi nổi, nhiệt tình đã trở thành
quen thuộc với bạn đọc khắp năm châu. "Hai
mươi năm sau" (1845), "Tử tước Đơ Bragiơlon"
(1850) là những tác phẩm nối tiếp của "Ba chàng
ngự lâm pháo thủ". "Bá tước Môngtơ - Crixtô"
(1844), "Hoàng hậu Macgô" (1845), "Phu nhân
Đơ Môngxôrô" (1845)... Đuyma còn là tác giả
nhiều tập hồi kí và chuyện kể về những chuyến
du hành.
Con Đuyma là Đuyma con (A. Dumas fils;
1824 - 95), cũng là một nhà văn lớn của Pháp, tác
giả của cuốn tiểu thuyết và vở kịch cùng
tên
"Trà hoa nữ".

* Trọng tâm: Viết báo cáo về một cuốn sách.
* Tiến trình giờ dạy:
I. Warm up:
- GV nêu yêu cầu
- HS làm việc theo nhóm. Nhóm nào liệt kê đủ ý nhất sẽ
thắng cuộc.
- GV gọi một vài HS đại diện nhóm trìng bày ý kiến của
nhóm mình trước lớp.
- GV tập trung các ý kiến và đưa ra đáp án đúng.
- GV dẫn vào bài mới → Writing a book report.
II. New Lesson:
Task 1:
- GV giới thiệu và hướng dẫn cách làm.
- HS làm việc theo nhóm và ghép các câu vào vò trí đúng.
- GV đi quanh để giúp đỡ và đưa ra đáp án đúng.
- Task 2:
- GV đặt các câu hỏi gợi ý ( Would you like to read the book?
……) để giới thiệu tác phẩm New Yorkers của O. Henry.

- GV cung cấp mẫu cho hoạt động viết bằng cách phát
phiếu bài tập cho từng HS.

• - HS thảo luận theo cặp các câu hỏi và đưa ra 9 câu trả lời
về tác phẩm New Yorkers của O. Henry.
- GV tập hợp các câu hỏi và đưa ra các câu trả lời đúng.
Task 3:
• - GV nhắc lại yêu cầu bài viết.
• - HS làm việc cá nhân, viết nháp ( Nếu đối tượng là HS
yếu GV có thể cho các em làm theo nhóm).
• - GV đi quanh giúp đỡ nếu cần.
• - Chữa bài chéo (cross checking) : HS đổi bài cho nhau. Đưa ra
một số tiêu chí như cấu trúc bài viết, lỗi chính tả, ngữ
pháp, các ý trong bài, v. v… và hướng dẫn HS cách chữa
bài cho nhau.
• - HS viết lại theo các phần sữa lỗi.
• - GV nhận xét chung và chữa các lỗi phổ biến, điển hình

trước lớp.
• III. Homework:
• _ GV dặn dò bài tập về nhà.
