USAGE
We use The Present Continuous to
talk about events happening
around the present time.
- The children are singing loudly.
- I’m writing a letter to my friend now.
- He is swimming.
We use The Present Continuous
after the suggestions,
imperative sentences.
- Look! The bus is coming.
- Sit down! The strange dog is running to you.
- Listen! Somebody is singing outside.
We use the Present Continuous tense to
talk about the future : for something
which has been arranged or planned.
- Mary is going to a new school next term .
- He is coming tomorrow .
- I’m meeting her at 6 pm .

Exceptions when adding -ing
• An e at the end of the word is removed (but: ee, oe and ye
remain unchanged).
Example: come – coming
(but: agree – agreeing)
• If the base verb ends in consonant + stressed vowel + consonant,
double the last letter: (vowels = a, e, i, o, u)
• stop

(but: open →opening)
If the base verb ends in ie, change the ie to y:
