Many students find it difficult to concentrate or pay attention at school. What are the reasons?
What could be done?
The phenomenon that students are lack of concentration at school is major topic of concern in the
field of education. Some explanations for this problem will be put forward, before a few possible
solutions are drawn.
On the one hand, there are two significant reasons why students are distraction in class. The
primary reason is that teaching methodology at school is old-fashioned and boring. This is
caused by lack of the interaction between teachers and their students or in other words, it is oneway communication. An excellent example of this is that in Vietnam’s school, the majority of
teachers still maintain a traditional writing-reading method which means that teachers will read
both topics and solutions and writing in notes is student’s duty. Another considerable reason is
that mobile technological devices are additive. Today, almost students own a smart phone or a ipad containing many apps, games… that attract students’ attention instead of teacher’s lessons.
On the other hand, some measures could be implemented to address students’ distraction. An
effective measure is that schools should apply new education approaches in teaching. It means
that the teacher-centred teaching method will be replaced by student-centred teaching approach
combine with open discussion in every lesson. This would improve excited atmosphere in study
and stimulate the eager for learning. Another measure is that using mobile phones of student at
school should be banned. These actions would contribute to reduce the distraction which made
from technological devices at school.
In conclusion, the issue that student are easily distracted at school could be caused by a number
of factors and must be tackled by a few remedies.
