In Croydon City many years ago, a large number of paintings were damaged by
“bad” air, and many people in the city died and thousands of others became ill
from fumes in the air in only one year. Air pollution, or dirty air, is caused by

many thing. Great clouds of smoke come from factory chimneys. Cars send
more smoke and fumes into the air. Burning waste fills the air with bits of dirt.
Even burning leaves add smoke to the air. Smoke of all kinds is bad to breathe
and can do great harm to the body.
We will have a problem with air pollution. However, things got better later in
the city because the city council made a decision to limit the amount of fumes
cars can exhaust into the air. The decision also set limits on pollution from
power plants and factories.
Although scientists are not able to stop air pollution, they are successful in
