- Class size: 42 female students of class 12D1, Yen Hoa high school
2. Time 45 minutes
3. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to :
- Use compound adjectives correctly
- Distinguish between transitive and intransitive verbs
4. Teaching aids: Text book, hand outs, chalk.
5. Skills: language use and writing.

- Game: Match up
- Divide sts into group of 4, give each group a set of word
card.
- Get sts to match the words so that they form compound
adjectives then write on the board
- The first team with the most correct adjectives is the
winner
- Declare the winner
- Suggested answers: Blued-eyed, good-natured, open-
minded, straight haired, cool-blooded, old-fashioned.
Transition: part of our lesion today focuses on this type of
compound adjectives.

- Ask sts to match an adj in column A with a suitable noun in
column B and then add –ed to the noun to form an adj compound
- Have sts work in pairs to compare answers
- Call one sts write the answer on the board then check with the
whole class.

3. A social worker should be kind-hearted.
4. A mountain climber needs to be cool- headed and
strong- willed.
5. The director seems absent-minded now. This
morning he wore two different colored socks.

Transitive and Intransitive verbs
1. Intransitive verbs are those used without an object
- E.g: The sun rises in the East
- She walks to work.
2. Transitive verbs are those that must have an direct object.
And only transitive verbs have passive form, but not all
of them can be changed into passive form
- The woman bought a lot of flowers.
- He repeated the questions.
- I have a car (Not: a car is had by me)
Activity 1: complete the chart(p.144-145)
- Tell sts to read through the passage, and dicide if the
verbs underlined are transitive or intransitive and put
them in the correct coloumn.
- Tell sts to consider the phrase following each verb,
whether it is a noun phrase or adverbial phrase.
- Have sts to compare answer with their partners
- Call sts to write the answer on the black board then check
the answer with the whole class
