In general, TV is a good invention of human beings but when children watch TV too much, it is
harmful in many ways. First of all, when children watch TV too much, it will affect their health,
especially their eye sight because they often sit closed to the screen of TV and the light of TV is
very strong and harmful. Besides this bad habit makes them not want to go out, play or work but
just sit in front of TV and eat snacks or fast food, so they will be fat and lose their appetite. In
addition children’s hobby to watch films especially violence films on TV can make them think
life is like films and they do everything they see on TV. For that reason, they are not only
addicted in violence but they may cause danger to other people, they are too young to know what
is wrong or right and what is life or films. Furthermore, when children watch TV too much, they
will waste time and lose time for learning, because they watch TV instead of doing homework.
As a result, they only see that watching TV is interesting while study is boring, they couldn’t
realize what is important to them. Finally, the influence of TV on children relates to children’s
relationship. If children should have gone out with their friends or playing or working then they
just watch TV and have no interaction between their friends and relatives. Therefore, they will
not have interactive skills or social skills and I think it is really dangerous. In short, there are
many things children ought to learn outsides not only on TV, so parents should teach children
how to use TV conveniently and usefully, TV is not a meaningless distraction.

When I was young, my parents taught me many good things to be a good person. They taught me
to be honest, respectful and well-behaved. The most important thing they want me to have is the
love of people for me. They would like me to feel happy when I was born and brought up by my
great parents. They also taught me to say ‘sorry’ or ‘thank you’ to everyone and the last thing is
that they taught me to smile with everyone I meet. They said that my smile will make people and

me closer and that is the beginning of relationships which I really need in life. The way they


taught me is that they expressed that in front of me and they wanted to be a mirror for me to
follow. They believe that when I see their actions and their love they receive, I would admire, be
proud of them and be ready to be the person they wanted. As a result, I’m always grateful for
their way they taught me and I think in the future when I am a mother, I also teach my children
like that. Although my parents are not rich, intelligent or successful, above all they are the best
and greatest parents I have known and they are also the people I extremely respect and love.

Somebody said that people only honor something when they lost it and in fact I always honor my
childhood when I learned everything by experience which my parents taught me. They taught me
to be a good person before becoming a successful person. I was taught to respect and behave
well to people, I was also taught to express my friendliness to people and especially I was taught
to become an honest person. At that time my mother told me that there were many things for me
to learn but honesty was the first chapter in the life book so I had to honor the experience. Since
then I have known that honesty is the most important thing my parents wanted to teach me. In
front of me, they never told a lie and they let me know what they received from that is the love
and respect of people for them. When I saw and felt that, I admired them and tried to be honest in
any case so that I would be loved, respected, helped and encouraged by people and for me it was
really great and meaningful. Besides my father said that it was so easy to begin a relationship but
it was not easy to make it become a friendly and loving connection between people. However,
luckily honesty is one of the most important things to help me be able to do that. Up to now I
have never forgotten the experience and I am always grateful to my parents for teaching me
about the value of honesty and ultimate gifts I will get from that. In the future when I am a
mother, I will definitely teach my children like that. Although my parents are not rich, intelligent
or successful, above all they are the best and greatest parents I extremely respect and love.

3.1. Why I don’t like swimming


For most people, swimming is one of their favorite sports while I am not interested in it at all and
below I want to tell you why I don’t like it. I remember clearly that last summer my friends and I
went on holiday in a beautiful beach called Nha Trang beach in Vietnam. At that time I couldn’t
swim but I tried to swim. So on the first day, I only learned to swim near the land with my own
lifebuoy while all of my friends could swim; they swam and played at deeper places. On the
second day, I swam in a deeper place, I was so excited but suddenly I saw high waves arriving
and rolling in. I was so scared, lost my lifebuoy and was under water. My nose and stomach were
full of water, I struggled and tried to say ‘help me’ loud but I couldn’t. I thought I would die but
luckily a woman who was swimming there saw me and rescued me. Since then I have never
thought that I like swimming because maybe I would die before I can swim.
e. The ideal job
Almost students go to school and try to study well just because they want to have an ideal job in
the future. Therefore I would like to give you some opinions about an ideal job. For many
people, an ideal job must increase your cost of living, make your life better and you never have
to be worried about money or time. That means you can earn a lot of money from the job but
don’t have to work too much. However, some other people think that a job is ideal when they
like it and have an extreme passion for it. At that time they can find joy in the job and work hard
and effectively but don’t feel tired or stressed. For them, the joy is the real value of an ideal job.
No matter whom you are, what you like, in short it is an ideal job for you when it comes up to
your expectations.
4, Describe a place: my home village
My younger brother is looking at the calendar again and smiling. Next weekend we are going to
with our family in Vinhphuc. We are going to leave the noise and animation of Hanoi for the
peace and romance of our native Vinhphuc. Vinhphuc province where I grew up is about 60 km
from Hanoi. On coming here you can enjoy the fresh air and peaceful atmosphere of Tam Dao

Mountain that is famous for its mysterious and attractive beauty. If you are interested in climbing
mountain, Tam Dao will be your good destination. You will feel as if you are in another world
where there are only nature and us without the stress of work, the noise of vehicles or the terror


of the pollution. Especially, when you reach the top of the mountain, you will be so excited. You
seem to be able to touch clouds, feel strong wind and enjoy the happiness of Tam Dao mountain
conqueror. Another interesting point of this mountain I want to tell you is that this mountain is
also the border that separates Vinhphuc and Thainguyen. Therefore if you have a chance to stand
on the top of this mountain, you will have an overview of both Vinhphuc and Thainguyen. Then
looking down Thainguyen, you will see green tea hills covered with full of fog. The scene is
really ethereal and marvelous. After that, look into the other side, Vinhphuc province will be in
your eyes. You will see large rice fields, quiet villages, the bright colors of trees and green grass
on the mountain slope and you can also see a small city called Vinh Yen city that is considered as
the heart of Vinhphuc province. If you are looking for a place to relax after hard-working days,
come to my home village, you will be pleased and impressed by its beauty as well as culture and
local people.

6, Comparing and contrasting about action films and romantic films.

It is undeniable that everyone has their own viewpoint about films. Some people believe that
action films and romantic films have many things in common. As evidence of this, they point to
entertainment films bring. After a hardworking day, people want to be relaxed and seeing a film
is one of their choices. No matter it is an action film or a romantic film, both of them helps you
feel better. Furthermore, to their mind, films are a series of images that reflects the life.
Therefore, action films and romantic films have their own value and meaning and they are both
worth being enjoyed and taken notice of.
On the other hand, it can also be argued that action films and romantic films are totally different.
For example, action films are about how important events or exciting things happen, so they are
very extraordinary and attractive. In contrast, romantic films are about a feeling or atmosphere of
love or of something new and special, so they are really gentle and deep-lying. That is the reason
why most of boys who are strong and independent like action films, but most of girls who are
weak and emotional prefer romantic films. In addition, action films often aim to act while
romantic films often aim to think and feel. Another difference between the two types of films is
that if action films are put in real life, it will be unacceptable even really bad, but if people love
and respect in real life like in romantic films, the life will be very beautiful and meaningful.
7, Problem and solution: Cheating in college
Cheating in college has always been a cause of concern in the education sector. But now this
problem has become so sophisticated and so widespread that it’s serious questions about the
integrity of young people. First of all, cheating in college isn’t just about copying somebody’s
paper or writing answers on a crib sheet, but it is also about hiring someone better to take the
exam and then get a high mark. Students therefore become more and more dependent. Another
worrying trend is that with the Internet, cheating has gone high tech. As evidence of this, there
are many web sites which offer term papers, class notes and exams. Therefore, students may pay
for a research paper bought through the Internet. However, the most common form of cheating in
college is plagiarism. According to college professors, the plagiarism is hard to catch because
they have to be really wise and clever to realize this dishonesty. For these reasons, instead of
training good people for the country, college unintentionally creates impractical and irresponsible

people.


In order to solve these problems, colleges should have strong rules for students who are caught
cheating. One solution is that the student will be given a ‘zero’ for the test. This solution could be
useful because most students cheat for their grade pressure. Another thing we can do is to give
the student a warning paper that will influence their study. For example, if they get two warning
papers, they will fail the next exam and can’t get any scholarships during that school year.
Besides, to reverse this trend, teacher can fine them by physical punishments. In other words,
teachers can make the student write down one thousand copies of the test in handwriting. This
punishment helps them realize that cheating is totally unacceptable. On the other hand, the most
useful solution to stop this trend is that the student must be kicked out of college. From then on,
the student can be considered as a typical example to warn other students. If colleges take this
definite action soon, the moral status of students will be improved and the quality of college
education will also be heightened.
8, Write about your dreams, ambitions and future plans
When I was at high school, I wanted to become a teacher. I used to teach my friends and when
they said that I was like a teacher, I felt very happy. In my opinion, teaching is really great and
honorable.
As a result, I decided to take the final exam to enter Hanoi Teachers’ Training University. At that
time, it seemed that nothing could be better than if I passed the entrance exam. However, I was
really disappointed when I found out I failed. I didn’t know what to do! I thought I’d lost it all,
my dreams, my ambitions, my future. So I wasn’t really happy when I passed the ITP of Banking
Academy. But after I had studied there for 3 weeks, I realized that I loved that school and
banking was suitable for me.
My failure helped me see that things won’t always work out as I want in life, and that’s just par
for the course; all I can do is try my best and keep going on. I see that it’s not easy to be
successful and I’ll have to deal with a lot of difficulties. Therefore, I have to be more and more
strong – willed, I’ll never give up my dreams.

Now I am studying banking and I hope I will become an excellent banker. Although I can’t be a
school teacher as I wanted, I will still be a good teacher for my children in the future. I believe in
myself and I will be successful and I am proud of my choices.
In life there are so many difficulties and challenges, that you sometimes feel tired and want to
give up everything. Nevertheless you should never give up your dreams because they give
meaning to your life.
9, Write an e-mail to a friend, inviting him/her to a special occasion

Hope you OK. It’s a long time I haven’t written to you. I keep meaning to, but I get too busy.
AnywAy I’m writing to you and I’m sure you will be really happy to hear about the following
information.
I’m planning on holding a meeting with all of the members in our former class. As you know,
since we left school we haven’t met. I think this is a good opportunity for us to remember our
teachers and memories. We will also invite our teachers and have a great party. The party will be
held on Sunday 05th December in our former classroom. Do you remember? It is in classroom 4,
first floor, Tran Phu high school, Tran Phu Street.
I know it’s a long way for you to come, but it will be awful if you can’t come. We are all looking
forward to seeing you and it’s really difficult to have another chance to meet everyone. We will

10, If the world were ending in a month, what would you do?
If the world were ending in a month, I would have many things to do.
Firstly, I would stop learning at university, because learning at university is to brighten my future
and to make my life easier. But when I know that there is only one month left for all my life, I

don’t think that it could make anything meaningful for my life. So instead of that, I would return
to my hometown to spend the whole month standing beside my family, friends and relatives. I
would be really happy to, talk and enjoy life with them before we couldn’t stay together.
Secondly, during the time, I want to have as a good time as I have on Tet. On Tet, everybody
doesn’t have to go to work or go to school; they just enjoy their life with their friends and
relatives. That is really great! Besides, before Tet Vietnamese people have to prepare everything
such as foods, drinks and money, so during the Tet, nobody is worried about anything, they live
comfortably and laugh together happily.
In daily life, money creates the distance between people, it makes people forget what the most
important thing in their life is but they just think they must earn more and more money to support
their family and their life. However, on Tet people don’t think that, they just think Tet is the time
they relax and spend time together. Therefore Tet is the time people are themselves. Moreover,
when money doesn’t keep its value, people would live more meaningfully. Instead of spending
time earning money, they spend time with their family and their relatives, and life would be full
of love and smiles. There wouldn’t be any crimes or evils, people would live to love each other.
Finally, if the world were ending in a month, I would do everything I could for my parents. I
want to be my parents’ pride, I want to see their smiles and I want to make them happy. They are
the greatest people who I love and respect most but I haven’t yet helped them with anything apart
from seeing their hard work every day.
Although this is only a hypothetical situation, I still want to do all of them. For me, it’s not
important to know when the world will end but when I can make all of these things become true.
