Planting trees is very important for the environment. Some people says trees
should be planted in the vacant areas of cities and towns, while other say housing
facilities should be build instead. Do you agree or disagree ?
Today, there is an increasing concern about the greenery of cities in many
countries. Some individuals suggest that it is necessary to plant more trees than to
construct new buildings in order to improve the quality of the environment. I partly
agree with this statement for several reasons.
First of all, planting trees can be essential to the well-being of cities and residents
who live there. Trees produce oxygen which can prevent heavy pollution in cities
and create a better quality of air. Moreover, human can have many health benefits
from planting trees by getting access to more green space such as: parks, gardens,
and playgrounds. A study shows that people who live near the green resources in
the city, may have a longer life expectancy than those do not live near the green
areas. All these benefits cannot be achieved through the buildings.
On the other hand, new buildings are also necessary as a normal development of a
city. If more areas are used to plant trees, there will be less places to build houses,
which will lead to a higher price of accomodation, and as a result, less people can
afford houses. Lack of affordable housing can lead to increasing number of
homeless people. Consequently, they will choose to live on the streets, under the
bridges or anywhere they can dwel. If there is no available space for people, they
will surely suffer.
In conclusion, planting trees in urban areas to protect the environment is very
important. In my opinion, I believe that it is more considerable to continue to
construct houses in those areas. However, people and government should find
efficient solutions to balance between housing demand and environmental
protection.
