1. My hometown
I would like to tell you about my hometown where I was
born and grew up. It is named Ha Tien, Kien Giang province.
It’s famous for many beautiful landscapes such as Ha Tien
beach, Phu Quoc island, Phu Quoc prison.
The weather is very nice and warm. There are too many
tourists in Ha Tien, Kien Giang all the time of the year.
I really love my hometown. I am living and studying in
Ha Noi. Once I have time. I always want to go to my
hometown. Please go to Ha Tien, Kien Giang at anytime of
the year if you have time! Ha Tien, Kien Giang always
welcomes to you!
1. Quê hương tôi
Tôi muốn kể cho bạn nghe về quê hương của tôi. Nơi tôi
sinh ra, lớn lên. Nó có tên là Hà Tiên, tỉnh Kiên Giang. Vì vậy
Hà Tiên, Kiên Giang là thị trấn thân yêu của tôi. Nó nổi tiếng
vì nhiều phong cảnh đẹp như bãi biển Hà Tiên, đảo Phú Quốc,
nhà tù Phú Quốc.
Thời tiết rất đẹp và ấm áp. Có rất nhiều khách đến du
lịch đến Hà Tiên, Kiên Giang quanh năm. Tôi rất yêu quý quê
hương của mình. Hiện nay tôi đang sống và học tập ở Hà Nội
nhưng nếu có thời gian tôi luôn muốn quay về quê hương.
Hãy đến Hà Tiên, Kiên Giang bất cứ thời gian nào trong
năm. Hà Tiên, Kiên Giang luôn chào mừng bạn.

2. A person you like in your family
I’m married and have my own small house. There are 4
people in my family: my wife (my husband), my son, my
daughter and me. In my family, I like my daughter most.
My daughter’s name is Anh Thu. She is small. She is
only 6 years old, she’s lovely. She has an oval face, long hair
and black eyes. 5 days a week I take my daughter to school.
She studies well. At weekends, I take her to the zoo or the
park.
I love my daughter very much and she loves me too. I’m
happy with my family.

Tôi kết hôn và có một gia đình nhỏ của riêng tôi. Trong
gia đình tôi có 4 người, vợ tôi, 2 con gái tôi và tôi. Trong gia

con gái tôi đến sở thú hoặc công viên để giải trí. Tôi yêu con
gái tôi rất nhiều và con gái tôi cũng yêu tôi, tôi cảm thấy rất
hạnh phúc về gia đình của mình.

3 . My holiday

I often visit beautiful places. Last year, I spent my
holiday on Ha Long Bay. I went there in my car. I spent my
holiday with my family. We stayed in a hotel. It was near the
beach. The weather was fine. The sun shone everyday.
Everyday we went swimming, took a lot of photographs. The
food in Ha Long was good. people there were very friendly.
We stayed there 5 days. After the holiday we felt very happy. I
want to go there again’.
3. Kỳ nghỉ của tôi.
Tôi thường xuyên đến thăm những nơi phong cảnh đẹp.
năm ngoái tôi có kỳ nghỉ hè ở Vịnh Hạ Long. Tôi đi đến đó
bằng xe hơi của tôi. Tôi nghỉ hè ở đó cùng với gia đình
mình.Cả gia đình nghỉ trọ tại một khách sạn nằm gần bờ biển.
ở đó thời tiết rất đẹp mặt trời chiếu sáng mỗi ngày. Gia đình
tôi cùng đi bơi, chụp ảnh rất nhiều. thức ăn ở Vịnh Hạ Long
rất ngon. Người dân ở đó rất thân thiện. gia đình tôi ở lại được
5 ngày. Sau kỳ nghỉ đó chúng tôi cảm thấy rất hạnh phúc và
mong muốn có một lần quay lại Vịnh Hạ Long.

4. My daily activities
My name is Vu Phuong Ly
I’m an official. I live and work in Rach Gia, Kien Giang.
Everyday I get up early at 6.00 a.m. I go to work at 7.00. I go
to work by motorbike. I have lunch in the office canteen. I go
home at 6.00 in the evening. I have dinner at 7.30 p.m at
home.
Sometimes my family goes out for dinner. We love

Chinese and Italian Food. Then I watch TV or read books.
In my free time I often play badminton. Sometimes I go
for a drinks with my friends. I go to bed at 11.00 at night. My
life is all right.
4. Hoạt động thường ngày của tôi.
Tôi là cán bộ văn phòng. Tôi sống và làm việc tại Rach
Gia, Kiên Giang. Mổi ngày tôi thức dạy rất sớm vào lúc 6h
sáng. Tôi đến nơi làm việc lúc 7h bằng xe gắn máy. Tôi ăn
trưa tại can tin của cơ quan và quay về nhà lúc 6h chiều. tôi ăn
cơm tối vào lúc 7h30 phút tại nhà. Đôi khi gia đình tôi ra
ngoài để ăn tối. chúng tôi rất thích món ăn Trung Quốc và Ý.
Sau đó tôi xem ti vi hoặc đọc sách báo. Trong thời gian rảnh
dỗi tôi thường chơi cầu lông. Đôi khi tôi đi uống riệu với bạn
bè. Tôi đi ngủ lúc 11h đêm. Cuộc đời tôi chỉ có thế.

5. A friend you like most
I’m a teacher. I live and work in Ha Noi. I have got a lot
of friends. But a friend I like most is Huan. He is a teacher,
too. He is still young, he is only 28 years old. He is tall and
handsome. He is a funny person. He often tells funny story.
We often visit each other when we have time. Sometimes
we have some drinks in the pub and talk about our life, our
families, our jobs and other things. Huan is my closest frind.
We often help each other in life and in work.

Tôi là một giáo viên, tôi sống và công tác tại Hà Tiên,
Kiên Giang. Tôi có rất nhiều bạn bè, nhưng người bạn mà tôi

thích nhất là Huấn. anh ấy cũng là một giáo viên, anh ấy còn

6. Your favourite entertainment in your free time.

I studies during this week, and I have only sunday of. I go to
the school every morning. Sometime I was work even on
sunday. And I am attending an evening class improve my
english. I am very busy with my study. When I have free time,
I read book, newspaper, magazine, listen to music. There are
many kinds of music avaliable on tapes including: rock, pop,
dance... Sometimes, I go shopping with my friends and my
relative. We often go to the supermaket such as : Big C,
Vincom, Metro ...Sometimes, I go to the zoo, park... but my
favourite entertaiment is collecting stamps. I have collected
stamps when I was 15 year old. Now I have 500 kinds of in
my collection including : bird, tree, person…
Tôi bận học suốt trong tuần, và tôi chỉ có một ngày nghỉ chủ
nhật. Tôi đi đến trường mỗi buổi sáng, đôi khi tôi phải làm
việc ngay cả ngày chủ nhật. Và tôi tham dự một lớp học buổi
tối cải thiện tiếng anh cho bản thân. Tôi rất bận rộn với việc

học tập. Khi tôi có thời gian rảnh, tôi đọc sách, tạp chí, nghe
nhạc. Có nhiều loại âm nhạc có sẵn trên băng như: rock, pop,
dance... Đôi khi, tôi đi mua sắm với bạn bè và người thân.
Chúng tôi thường xuyên đi đến các siêu thị như : Big C,
Vincom, Metro... Đôi khi tôi đi đến vườn thú, công viên...
nhưng giải trí yêu thích của tôi là sưu tập tem. Tôi sưu tập tem

khi tôi 15 tuổi. Bây giờ tôi có 500 con tem bộ sưu tập: chim,
cây, người…

Sport is necessary for everyone. Sport not only brings
good heath for every body but also brings joy ment for many
elderly to live longer so acording to me. Sport is good for our
heath. My people like sport. So do I, I like sport because sport
is my favourite entertaiment in my free time. Futhermore,
sport is good for my health.I like two kinds of sport, soccer
and badminton. When I have free time I play badminton with
my roommate. I play soccer at weekend, with my friends and
class mates. We form a football team. I like many
international football teams example Manchester United-it
from england and Real Madrit-it football team is from Spain. I
would like to become a footballer. I wish my dream will com
true.

Thể thao là cần thiết cho tất cả mọi người. Theo tôi, thể
thao không chỉ mang lại sức khỏe tốt cho cơ thể mà còn mang
lại niềm vui cho nhiều người cao tuổi là sống lâu hơn. Thể
thao tốt cho sức khỏe của chúng tôi. Hầu hết mọi người thích
thể thao. Tôi cũng vậy, tôi thích thể thao vì thể thao là trò giải
trí tôi yêu thích trong thời gian rảnh. Hơn nữa thể thao tốt cho
sức khỏe của tôi. Tôi thích hai môn thể thao, đó là bóng đá và
cầu lông. Khi tôi có thời gian rảnh tôi chơi cầu lông với bạn
cùng phòng. Tôi chơi bóng đá vào cuối tuần, tôi đá bóng với
bạn bè của lớp tôi. Chúng tôi đã hình thành một đội tuyển
bóng đá. Tôi thích nhiều đội tuyển bóng đá quốc gia như :
Manchester United-nó là đội tuyển bóng đá ở Anh và Real

thành một cầu thủ bóng đá chuyên nghiệp. Tôi mong ước mơ

8. Advantages and disadvantages of living in a big city.
(Những thuận lợi và khó khăn của cuộc sống trong một
thành phố lớn)
As we know, living in a big city is supplied move facilities
than anywhere esle. However, there are advantages and
disadvantages of living in a big city.
First, I think living in a big city dwellers are provided a lot of
society services, such as health care, education, good job and

they have much chance to contac or work with foreigners,
residents can easily travel fast, thanks to good infrastructure.
In addtion, social services help life be easy and comfortable.
On the other hand, people living in a big city have to suffer
from many disadvantages : smoke rising from factories and all
kinds of vehicle on the streets makes environment polluted
and influence people's health. The noise all day and night
makes their minds tense. Traffic jams happen every day.
(Như chúng ta biết, sống trong một thành phố lớn được
cung cấp phương tiện di chuyển tốt hơn so với bất cứ nơi nào
khác. Tuy nhiên, có thuận lợi và khó khăn khi sinh sống tại
một thành phố lớn. Trước tiên, tôi nghĩ rằng cư dân sống trong
một thành phố lớn được cung cấp rất nhiều dịch vụ xã hội,
chẳng hạn như chăm sóc sức khỏe, giáo dục, công việc tốt và
họ có nhiều cơ hội để liên lạc hoặc làm việc với người nước
ngoài, các cư dân có thể dễ dàng đi du lịch nhanh chóng, nhờ
vào cơ sở hạ tầng tốt. Bên cạnh đó, dịch vụ xã hội giúp cuộc

9. FREETIME AND ENTERTAINMENT
Làm gì khi rãnh rỗi
When I have free time, I often stay at home listening to
music, watching TV or doing some reading.
I read the TUOI TRE (Young) and the PHU NU
(women). The TUOI TRE is published in 3 forms but I often
read the triweekly. I’m interest in the columns on News and
Economy in the columns on Shopping.
Sunday is a wonderful day for me to spend time going
around. One of the things I really enjoy on Sunday is to go
shopping with my friends. However, I don’t spend much
money on anything.
Sometimes, I may chat for a while with the brothers, my
elder brother’s friends. We often talk about the work, and how
to live well. Some of them also help me in my studies,
especially learning English. English well.
I like doing nothing best during my free time. It is just
good to sit back, relax and let the busy world go by.

10. THE DIFFICULTIES IN LEARNING ENGLISH
Những khó khăn khi học anh văn
When I started learning English, I met a lot of
difficulties. These problems are such as:
- English pronunciation: the pronunciation in English
puzzles me a lot because a same letter has different sounds.
For example the letter “a” in “bath” is pronounced /a:/ /ba:θ/, but it is pronounced /ei/ in “bathe”/be: θ/. Generally

verbs and nouns are pronounced differently. For example “a
record” /ə’reks:d/ but “to record” /tu:ri’kɔ:d/…
- English accent: In order to have an accent just like the
native speakers I often listen to tapes and repeat after than,
trying to imitate them.
- English grammar: English grammar is much easier than
French grammar. However, this doesn’t mean that learners
meet no difficulties in learning it. It took me a longtime to
learn how to master the tenses in English grammar, do as
many grammar exercises as possible and read various
grammar books.
- English style and writing: English language has its own
style, but I often write English like Vietnamese style,
especially how to arrange the words and their part of speech
in order. Therefore, I have tried to read the books and
newspapers to learn how to write English in its right style.

11. IT IS NECESSARY TO LEARN ENGLISH

Nowadays English is spoken by most of the people
throughout the world. It bids fair to become an international
language. Therefore it’s necessary for all of us to learn it. It is
of great benefit to us all in every aspect.
We learn English to understand the newspapers written in
English or the stories translated into English.
We can also enjoy interesting songs in English.
Beside, most of the modern sciences and technical books

are written in English. They are the precious treasure of
knowledge for our life.
The knowledge of English also enables us to travel or
communicate with foreigners, especially our diplomatic
relations with other. It is a sine non condition, so high rank
government officials are required to master this living
language. Despite its puzzling pronunciation, the English is
the favorite language of learners because it brings them lots of
opportunities in their likes../.

12. SHOPPING IS MY FAVORITE PARTIME

Thanks for your regards. How are you? I’m doing fine.
What are you doing? I am having three public holidays and I
am learning to relax. My hobby is shopping. I go shopping
about once a week. Nothing is more pleasant than touring
around the market to watch people as well as to see different
kinds of goods for sale. There is a wide variety of item
available at the market such as clothes, foot wears, household
articles, school supplies etc… I refer shopping in a self –
service store so that I can feel free to choose the things I like
and I don’t have to bargain over prices. I am most interested
in clothes shopping so I often visit the clothes department in
the largest department store in our town. I like to dress myself
in the latest fashion. In short, shopping is my favorite pastime.

13. MY HOLIDAY
Kỳ nghỉ hè
Last week, I had a wonderful holiday in Ha Tien with my
family. Traveling about over 60 kilometers from Rach Gia city
by car, we came there in the morning. We stayed Ha Tien two
days because my father wanted to visit his old friends.
Therefore, we were at their house instead of being at a hotel.
Firstly, we went and see my father’s friends and Ha Tien
market. There, there are a lot of fresh seafood and special
food. We brought some of them for the gifts. We stopped at
the souvenir shop and I brought some souvenirs made of shell
and shellfish.
Secondly, we did sightseeing many interesting places
(beautiful sites) such as the Cave (Grotto), Mui Nai beach,
Phu Dung pagoda…,we went swimming and eating fish and
crab . In Ha Tien, the weather is cool and warm. People are
very friendly and the food is always fresh and delicious. All of
them are unforgettable things and places for holiday – makers.
I wish to see all the beautiful spots of Ha Tien again

14 . Necessity to learn English (Sự cần thiết để học tiếng
Anh)
English is considered to be the most common and important
language of the world today. A great number of people
understand and use English in every part of the world. English
is the most useful language. Being good at English, we can
travel to any place or any country we like. We shall not find it
hard to make others understand what we wish to say.
English also helps us to learn all kinds of subjects. Hundreds
of books are written in English every day in all countries to
teach people useful things. The English language has therefore
helped to spread ideas and knowledge to all the corners of the
world. There is no subject that cannot be learned in the
English language. As English is used so much everywhere in
the world, it has helped to make countries of the world
become friendlier with one another. The leaders of the world
use English to understand one another. The English language
has therefore spread better understanding and friendship
among countries of the world.
Lastly, as a person who knows English easily get more
knowledge from many parts of the world, he or she is
respected by people. It is for all these reasons that I want to
learn English.
My Problem When Learning English. Studying is important
thing in my life. English is important things that must be

mastered in the modern world. We can not deny that. If we
want to be successful in our study or in our job, we must
master it. Knowing the importance of English, I study about it
everyday. But, I get some difficulties of learning English.
Firstly, I have a problem in listening. This happens when I am
listening long conversation between two or more people from
native speakers. It will be easier if the conversation happens
between people from Vietnam. So, I can understand the
message.
Secondly, I get problem in reading, especially in TOEFL. I
sometimes find some difficulties to get the main idea of the
paragraph. As we know that sometimes the sentences in the
choice are different from sentences in the paragraph. I think,
enrich vocabulary is important to solve it.
Finally, I have a problem in writing. I sometimes find some
difficulties to get idea when I will write something. I make
some mistakes when I am writing such as the grammar or
structure of the sentences, full stop, punctuation, capital letter,
etc.
As a student I have big obligation to solve it. I must study
hard in order to solve it and not to make many mistakes in
learning English. I hope I can do it well

15. MY SIXTEENTH BIRTHDAY
Sinh nhật lần thứ 16
A day I always remember in my mind is the day I

celebrated my sixteenth birthday. All my friends and relatives
were invited to the birthday party.
Before being ready for the party, I put on my pretty dress
which was sewn by a clever dressmaker in my neighborhood.
After that I went into the hall where everyone was waiting for
me. I saw a lot of lovely present on a table. They had been
brought for me by all people who came to the party. A few
minutes later, my parents brought my birthday cake with
sixteenth candles on it. It was a large and beautiful cake.
Then I was asked to cut it. I tried to manage to cut a
piece though I felt rather uneasy with so many eyes upon me.
The guests were then served. Music was played throughout
the party. There were also jokes and laughter among the
guests.
When the party was over, I unpacked all birthday gifts. I
was surprised to see such lovely gifts. Then I thanked my
parents for holding such a pleasant party to celebrate my
birthday.

16. MY LIVING PLACE Nơi tôi đang sống
I am living in Can Tho, a small city by the Mekong
River. There are many reasons that make me like to live here.
First of all, this is a good place to get knowledge and degrees
thanks to different kinds of schools in the city. Second, people
can easily find jobs after graduating from schools. Third, the
natural environment in Can Tho is wonderful. Different kinds
of tree and rivers are around the city. Those are lovely places

for young people to relax after hard time of studying or
working. Finally, most of the people in the city are young. It is
easy for me to make fiends and get a wonderful social life. All
in all, Can Tho city is really a wonderful place to live.

17. MY FAMILY – gia đình tôi
My family is small. There are only five members in my
family. There are my father, my mother, my elder brother, my
younger brother and I.
My father is a veteran of revolution. He is over eighty years
old. My mother is a veteran teacher. She is over seventy years
old. My elder brother is a policeman. He is thirty-five years
old. He is a married man and he has a daughter. My younger
brother works at home. He left school but he doesn’t study
more. He wants to take care of my parents well.
Everyone in my family is good and happy. My parents love us
very much. They do everything and give many things for us.
There strict help us in our studues and works a lot, I love my
family very much.
