Unit 12 A Vacation abroad.
Lesson 2 Speak.

I-

Aims and objectives:

- Practice speaking skill on making plans for a trip abroad.
- By the end of the lesson Ss will be able to talk about
their plan for a trip aboard using the brochures and flight
information.

II-

Materials:

- Textbook, OHP, transparent paper , chart for mapped
dialogue, picture.

III- Ways of working:
- pair work, group work.

IV-Anticipated problems:
Ss don’t remember the names of some famous countries.
The 5 tables of travel information are too long for Ss to
understand in short time.

V-Procedures:
1- Warm up:



Kim’s game:
T shows Ss a picture of famous places in the world. Ask S to
look at it in 20 seconds and try to remember the names of
them.
Divide the class in 2 groups with 2 different names. Ss in each
group take turns to write on board what they’ve seen in 1
minute. The team with more corrrect answers will win the
game.
Keys:
Malaysia, America (or USA), France, Australia, UK
(Britain).
- Do you want to see those places in reality?
- How can you do it? (Travelling abroad)
- What should you do before travelling?(Making a plan)

Call Ss to the board and do the matching
Go through the tables by asking Ss some questions for
information about the flights, accommodation, and tourist
places.

* Look at Hotel Advertisement:
1- How much is a single room in Revere Hotel? In Atlantic
Hotel?
2-Which hotel is cheaper, Revere or Atlantic?
3- Which hotel is more modern?
4- How do you know?

* Look at Travel Brochure:
1-Where can you visit?
2-What can you eat?


3- While speaking:
Set the scene:
Nam and Nga are making a plan for their trip from Los Angeles
to Boston.
Mapped dialogue:

The Revere Hotel (is expensive but
it has a gym.)
Which place(should we) I think(we should visit) Harvard
visit?
Medical School.
(There’s) a daily flight at 10 am.

Steps:
- Show Ss the chart
- Eliciting the exchange
- T- whole class, Half- Half, Open pairs
- SS work in close pair to practice making the same
dialogue in 3 minutes.
- T goes round , monitoring and giving asistance
* Complete the Itinerary:
T shows Ss the model itinerary

Get Ss to complete their own itinerary in pairs

T gets feedback and call some pairs to demonstrate their
plan
Do the corrections.

4-Production:
Discusion:
Ask Ss to work in groups of 4/5 to creat their own itinerary for
their coming summer holiday. T gives each group a piece of
transparent paper for them to write their itinerary.
After 5 minutes call some groups to demonstrate their plan. T
gives marks for good groups.

5- Homework:

- Write your own itinerary in your notebook .
- Prepare the next lesson.
