BUSSINESS AND CORPORATE CULTURE AT THE
SH INTERNATIONAL COUNLSULTING COMPANY

I.

OVERVIEW OF CORPORATE CULTURE

1. The concept of corporate culture
Each country has its history and specific culture, social -economic activities to his
own human. In the trend of globalization inevitably takes placs today, with a view
of making friend with all the countries in the world as well as Viet nam became
150th member of WTO, the year 2007 marked a turning point in the process of
global intergration.
Culture in general and business culture in particular is both a mean of integration
and it might become an obstacle if we do not understand other culture of each
countries as well as of individual enterprises. Hence culture and business issues
today’s era is the key to help businesses to maintain, develop and achieve success
in the global economy.
Recognizing the important role of bussiness culture, in the recent years,
enterprises in Vietnam has turned its attention to the construction of corporate

culture. Many bussinesses have invited foreign companies to work on plan of
corporate culure for their company. However, to promote the culture that works in
the bussiness environtment of the country, each company must build it on ethnis


cultures consistent with the fine art of the the country.
Along with the development of the economy oriented and the transformation
mechanism bussiness enterprises including state- owned enterprieses have
become the bussiness unit autonomy. Enterprises have to build its own corporate
culture in order to stand in the fierce market competiontion.
Corporate culture is understood as the entire cultural factors are selected , create,
used and they are all expressed in the bussiness to create its own culture of that
enterprise.

During the development, each enterprise is making an effort building a value
system for employee to accepte. Create a ha harmony within the business,
a positive atmosphere forcultural promotion strength of the bussiness. Especially
in the current period when we joined the WTO, the entry of foreign firms into the
water and bring

the new

culture, new values competition,

enterprises need

to Vietnam build their own identity as well as to ensure their competitiveness
before new competitor.
2. The expression of corporate culture
Corporate

culture is

At the first level, the business culture is the process and structure of the

3. The impact of corporate culture to the development of the business:
3.1. Positive effect:
- Corporate culture set a tone of the bussiness, distinguishes these enterprises with
other enterprises: corporate culture consitst of many parts and element
incoporated as bussiness philosophy, practises, rituals, habits… All these factors
created a style of bussiness and differentiate it with other enterprises
- Coporate culture creates centerpetal force for the whole bussiness: a good
culture will help the company to attract talent and strengthen the loyalty of the
employees in the businesses. In other word, good coporate culture will create a
friendly working environment and efficiency which providing coherence, unity
will, control-oriented attitude and activity of all members in creating the stability
of the bussiness.
- Coporate culture contribute to impove the competitiveness of the enterprise
through the process of encouraging the invention in the enterprises that the
dominated cutural enviroment will asise strong real independence at the highest
level, this means that all the staffs are encouraged to work saparate and give their
own comments regardless they are only element staffs. This encouragement will
promote the dynamic creativeness of each staff and it is the basis for R & D
process of the company. On the other hand, the success of the staffs will motivate
them to work with the enterprises in the long term and more active. It also create
the working atmotphere as well as positive working style, attracting talent,

improve the bussiness ethnics and enrich customer services and bring you’re
your own bussiness image.
So once the company has strong coporate culture and its consistent with the
objective and strategy of the company that will create employees pride, from
which they are living and striving hard on the sake of the company, helping the
leaders to manage the company in a easier way also helping the staffs themselves
to feel more comfortable and active in the shape of their thinking and acting.
3.2. Negative effect :
An enterprise with a negative corporate culture is an enterprise of a rigid
management style, autocratic, authoritarian and bureaucratic system which will
cause passive working environment, frighten attitude of staffs and it can lead
them to the inattentive or opposed attitude to the leaders. That would be an
ignorance from the enterprise which does not intend to create a relationship
between the employees and other external working relationships. The manager
only coordinate their effort to production work but the staff have no faith to the
enterprise. In fact there are many bussiness today are following this ways,
typically are cosmetics and pharmaceuticals
There is one thing we cannot deny that if the trust or the value of the enterprise is
negative then it will strong affect to the staffs in that enterprise. The most
determining an emplyee’s life, affect the rights, and the way they treat other
emplyees surround them. Hence if the cultural environment in the enterprise is
unfair and negative then it will affect the psychological work of the employees
and negativelly impact bussiness result within the enterprise.
4. Affecting fators to formation of corporate culture:
4.1. External factors:
- Cultural factor:
+ The contrast between individualism and colectivism : the culture in which the
individulism is valued hence the concept of action for the benefit of oneself or

ones family is very popular. The culture of collectivism in which the human’s
perception by blood relationship or career belongs to an organization closely

associated which care for the interests of the individual while the individual acts
and behaves in the interest of the organization;
+ The decentralization of power : occurs in every culture, in fact individuals in a
society cannot be completely indentical physical and same intellectual capacity.
However the acceptance level of power is unbalanced among the members in
different cultures will vary. Together with the decentralization of the power is the
division of responsibilities between indiviaduals. In the group of countries with
low level of decentralization, people tend to average all means, the
responsibilities donot allocate explicitly. The contrast group of countries with
high level of decentralization, the scope of rights and responsibilities of each
position is very clear defined.
+ The right opposition between men and woman: this variable reflects the
relationship between gender and the role of each gender at work. In this
environtment the role od male gender’s right are highly valued. The
characteristics of the culture is dominated by the traditional masculine values
such as the archivement, power, determination… but in the culture dominated by
the feminist values the trendopposite.
+ Caution: reflect the extent to each member of different cultures who accepts the
situation in the chaos or instability. In the prudent culture, each work must be
conducted in accorandance with its procedures, while in other culture is less than
prudent style is more flexible.
- Social institutions, political institutions, economic institutions, administrative
institutions, government policies, legislation of the country also affect the
corporate culture. This is expressed through the culture value of the enterprise
must conform to the institutions of the country.

- The process of globalization and its difference, culture exchange : in the trend of
global economy, intergration with the world economy, bussiness exchange and
each enterprise is dealing with many others domestic as well as abroad enterprises
that have different culures hence your enterprise is subject to certain influence.

- Developing trend of the economy and business environtment : corporate culture
is not something variable hence the trend of the economic development and
bussiness environtment having certain changes in the organizational cuture then
coprorate culture should have relevant adjustment to ensure the ability to meet the
new needs.
4.2. Internal factors:
- Culture, style, personal ethnical value of bussiness leaders. The leadership is not
only decide the organizational structure of the bussiness and technology but also a
creator of icons, ideologies, languages, beliefs... of the bussiness. Through the
construction and bussiness management, the ideological leadears will be reflected
on the corporate culture.
- Personality, personal value of employees: individual enterprise can not operate
if there is only the leader without any employee. This mean that corporate culture
us driven by the leaders of the enterprise but continue to promote and develope
by the employees’ characters as well as personal value of the entire staffs.
Without eh cosent of all members, any enterprise can be difficult to build a
healthy culture.

- The cultural values learned:
+ The colective experience of the enterprise: this is the experice gained in
dealing with common problems. Hence they are common and popular
dissemination throughout the enterprise and continue to be passed on to the new

generation of employees. That may be the experience dealing with customers, the
service requirements of customers and experience to deal with these dilemas...
+ The value are learned from the other enterprises: that is the result of
market research, competitior research, exchange program between enterprises in
an industry... initially a group of corporate employees absorb those values and
pass on to other colleagues who own or acquire them usually. After some time,
these values become common practice throughout the enterprise.

+ Values by one or more new members to bring in : the recption of these
values often experienced through a long time, a conscious or unconscious

In the trend of globalization today, the risk of cultural assimilation is not
small. To prevent the world into a unified culture, every person, every nation
needs to preserve and promote culture imbued with national “intergartion” rather
than “dissolved”. Therefore, to assert oneself, each enterprise need to build for
themselve a distinct culture.
Coporate culture is the intangile assets of each enterprise. In the market
economies, the construction of corporate culture has become increasingly
necessary and cope with difficulties. And any enterprise lack of cultural factors,
knowledge will become hard to stand.
Any organization should have a new culture to survive and develop. Hence
building a corporate culture is the first thing that every enterprise should pay
attention to. Many of their assessments of the bussiness is still focused on
organizational market, human resouces and organizational structure. However,
acutely aware of the value of the bussiness to assess what is called : the vision,
mission and the core values of the bussiness. As every enterprise is building a
healthy living environtment, the staffs themselves want to work, want to

contribute making the staffs work better and wherever they go they are proud to
be one of the member of the enterprise and it is the driving force hehind the
development of the enterprises. Hence how to build a cultural environtment in
every enterprise to help them to see the working environment is also the habitat
which enterprise is to work on.

II.

ROLE OF CORPORATE CULTURE IN THE
FORMATION, CONSTRUCTION AND DEVEPOPMENT
OF SH INTERNATIONAL CONSULTING COMPANY

1. The formation and introduction of the company:

In this era, any bussiness that want to develope will need to have capital and
advanced tecnology and people, in which human resources is the determining
factor. The human factor will make the difference and determine the long term
development of the enterprise.
SH International Consulting born under the idea of the founding member who are
working in the financial sectors, banks and a number of scientists with the desire
to apply the scienific achievements which are practised to bring the economic
efficiency and supporting other enterprises in science resereach, financial and
banking research , seeking solution for bussiness operations of every enterprises.

2. Applying the coporate culture in the SH International Consulting
Company
With that spirit, all member of the company has launched a code of regulation

inclusive of general rules and specific rule within the relationships: internal rules
( between the upper level to the lower level; between colleagues; between
subordinate and superior; between generation; work attitude..); external rules (to
clients, partners, the public, the media..)

To the reader understanding, easy to remember and easy to implement; the
regulation is presented briefly, concisely, and the core content of each item are
shown in the following of golden words : Respect – Friendly – Whole Hearted Cooperation – Sharing.
With only these golden letters, but it has come to embrace the whole hearted
of the founding members, in particular of the point of view of each member want
to send it to the readers are :

- Respect : respect the achivements, experiences, lessons learned during
the efforts of those who set the first step to explore the science researches, the
results have been achived. Those who have saved their whole life to accomplish
their ambition with the desire to find out the source of fuel that can replace the
current ones, reduce the cost of current fuel and in the same time reducing
environtment pollution and find solution to the value added of the current
resources that we are exploiting.
- Friendly: keep the relation between colleagues, between superior to their
subordinates and vice versa friendly, dedicatedly teach and help others to improve
professional qualifications and experience of every staff. Friendly to customer to
always maintain the confidence and build their credit. SH has set out specific
rules of behavior internally and externally to enhance the role of individual and
aims to achieve the highest possible performance.
- Whole-Hearted : expressed enthusiasm of everyone in the company
during working time, loyalty and compliance with the regulation of the company
which is the driving force to motivate everyone in the company always seeks to

build the company to be a great corporation.

- Cooperation: it presents the views of coporate relation, to be friends,
collaborattion, do reseach with scientists, with other domestic enterprises and
abroad to achive the target to bring back the benefit for everyone.
- Sharing: difficulty sharing, oppotunity sharing, revenue sharing, these
make the company and customers are co-exist and growing up together. Create a
long term partnership and durable.
With 10 golden letter as a guide during the formation and survival of the
company, with the efforts of all staffs within the company, the company has
gradually have partnership with local firms and start seeking foreign partners for
cooperation and investment. The company’s reseach has national and
international recognition with the break through invention and advantages in
comparison with other inventions which have recognition worldwide. We are

studying big corportation in Germany, Switzeland, Westen Europe and America
to learn more about them to implement and operate some of projects.
With these achivements, the company gradually asserted its position. To
achieve such initial success, the leader of the company always appreciates the
company motto of bussiness on the 10 golden letters mentioned above.
Hence we can see the role of corporate culture which is the motivation and
the guidline for the existence and developtment of the company.
